Abuse expert Lundy Bancroft published a book in 2002 (Why Does He Do That? Inside the Minds of Angry and Controlling Men) that lists porn usage as one of the indicators for whether an abusive/controlling man is statistically likely to become dangerous when his victim tries to leave him. Nearly 20 years ago he made this observation.

Behavioral science has known for a really long time now that pornography contributes to men becoming violent predators but we still can't seem to get society to acknowledge it or give a shit. The sad truth is that 99% of men watch porn, including our male politicians and scientists, so they're all biased and have a reason to deny/ignore the evidence.

This is just so sad.

How do we protect our sons from this? Even if we didn't allow them to have phones until whatever age we deem appropriate, there is always going to be a way for them to access this content.

I remember when my neighbours first got internet in the late 90's, we all piled in around the computer, waited while it dialed up, and looked up the weirdest stuff we could find. We were 5/6 kids from the ages of 13-17 I think. I remember looking at some weird gross stuff, not sexual but something horrible with rats.

We were grossed out, but not affected and didn't really think about it again. Now that would be even younger kids and it would be hardcore porn they would be looking at, which as we all know, is addictive and so damaging, to everyone, but especially young minds.

How can we protect young boys from this? Porn can't be made illegal. CP is illegal and it's impossible to control. Maybe all sites with any sexual contact should need a credit card to access or something?

I don't know. I'm rambling. Anyone have any ideas?

One of the biggest red flags, and reasons for dumping my last ex is because after he got home from his last assignment, his porn preference shifted. I had been tolerant of it initially because at least I could kind of see what he was thinking about by his search history (because I hadn't found this group yet).

But when he got back from his last assignment that was in a really rough part of the world, things got scary. We were talking one day about his depression etc. and he actually said to me that the average stuff wasn't enough anymore, and essentially he wanted to tie me down, torture, and beat me for sexual gratification.

I had been looking to leave him for a bit, he was already on his second chance, this was the biggest WTF moment I've ever had.

The sick and sad thing is that even he knew it was fucked up and he was broken. He got it, like he knew that it wasn't good at all. But man, it still shakes me.
