I know a couple where an epitome of HVM chased and “locked down” a girl who is not ambitious career-wise and whose only interest seems to be designer bags and clothes. When we were talking about what we would do if we won a lottery, he said “my wife would immediately spend it all on shoes and bags!” She just laughed and nodded. When I asked her what person, alive or dead, she would talk to if she had a chance, she replied “Kim Kardashian”. He constantly jokingly complains that she drags him to do shopping with her whenever they travel, while he’d rather explore the city. He is always the one to stay with their kids (he loves spending time with them), while she seems to be constantly tired of them.

My question is, why would an attractive HVM who has plenty of choice go for a good-looking women who lacks substance? No matter how much I tried to figure out what he likes about her apart from the looks, I couldn’t. If he jokingly complains that all she’s interested in is new designer clothes and there is always a nanny in their house to look after their kids when he’s not at home, why did he marry that woman and not a HVW who has her own career and pursues meaningful hobbies?
