Be careful when talking about this that we don't go down into biological essentialism. Talking about stats or results in a peer reviewed paper is okay, but those papers (if good) leave room for the individual to be different.

Can't find the studies but I read some like that. Generally men/women like "X" or "y". I think I remember some studies gave varying responses but I can't remember.

Also I always wondered if it's possible to differentiate between answers people want to give and answers people believe they should give. Will someone say or not day something if they think they should or shouldn't say it?

Say a person says they want someone with a good job. Is it possible they don't care, but say it because it's maybe kind of normal? Maybe they say the want a partner with money. Maybe it's a bit important but not all lot to them but again, it's not uncommon to hear it, so do they say it because it's normal? Could they overstate how important it is?

Could a woman give the answer of she likes status because it's customary? Could a guy not mention emotional aspects because he isn't supposed to?

Does any of that make sense?

I can't help you with academic studies but I did just want to point out a couple things. EDIT: check out the work of Gad Saad.

One, that plenty of women do go for looks as well, possibly because looks can be a kind of "status". More masculine traits (broader shoulders, more muscle mass, height, etc.) can be taken as signs of strength. And strength would have translated to status in early human history. Which is itself (like all status) really only a goal to reach protecting/providing ability.

Two, why limit yourself to academics? Academia is infested with modern feminist thought. Meanwhile, there are a lot of unofficial experiments and testimony that individually, would be considered anecdotal, yes, but when considered in mass helps paint a picture. I pretty much have this one on speed dial because it is so useful in these types of discussions. Case and point: these specific women who responded to German Lifter considered looks SO important that they actually let themselves be treated in a trashy way that a normal guy would get unmatched and blocked for.

You don't really need studies to know this. Just look around you and you'll get the answer. Women are hypergamous and are more prone to attach sexuality and emotions. Men's sexuality generally believes in spreading their seed everywhere and hence will have sex with most women possible and they seperate their sexual intimacy to emotional bond mostly, at extreme this turns into a maddona whore complex.

Women go for looks that confirm higher status like height, money, bigger body, face matters because face is basically your personality. Women won't go for Men who diverge too much from the normal (no neurodivergence). Women always make the first move, which is giving accepting or re enforcing social cues to the man they find kinda attractive, Men's job is to understand this and then make a "move".

Men mostly go for any women and can have more varied taste than most women but Men might appreciate more neurodivergence and neotenous body in women.
