Most creditors use fico scores which don't go that high up I don't think. The credit bureaus run a scam selling their own score, which no* creditor uses.

I was confused by this post. I thought perfect score was in the 800’s

A good credit score really just proves you're willing to pay a ton of interest. Don't finance if you can wait to pay up front.
[–]MGMOWNow1978[S] 21 points22 points23 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Definitely save and pay rather than use finance if you can.
[–]striaghtWHITEmale13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Nope. 771 fico score on a year of credit history. Never paid a cent of interest

Credit cards are awesome for that. I have one for my daily expenses that I set a super low limit on. I pay it off at the end of each month. Then I got one for travel and one for larger purchases. You earn points for the money you spend, additional perks for using them and then there is the safety of protection in case it gets stolen or cloned. Pay the card off at the end of each bill cycle in full.
[–]cowboyfromhell3241 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Ditto
[–]starkfuture1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This. I have not taken a loan, ever. Just have 5 credit cards. Paid in full every month. I have a fico cs of 775+/850 last time I checked.
[–]Caathrok5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I have a 790 according to credit karma. Credit score is all about having a history of using credit wisely (its better to use less) and making payments on time. Equity and the like help as well.
And if you are trying to build it, sometimes a small dip now can help significantly raise it later. (Plus save some money)
[–]GodEmperorofMankindd2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
815 score always pay off balance every month. What are you talking about? Plus the free round every year. North America is cashless these days. If you’re in Europe than it’s cash heavy.
[–]wannabe9999 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
my fico is 810. never paid a dime of credit card interest in my life
[–]Lord_Teapot1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
credit score in the ~800 range and never paid a penny of interest in my ~11 years of having a credit card lol.
[–]flee_market0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A good credit score really just proves you're willing to pay a ton of interest.
Not really, mine's over 800 and I haven't taken out any lines of credit in over a decade.
I also pay my bills on time, every time, and don't have any complaints filed against me from previous landlords.
[–]OutWithTheNew0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It all depends on what you're buying and what the interest rate is. Around here you can finance a new car for under 1% interest. If you are in the market for a new car, there's no good reason to not finance it.
[–]Konsaki25 points26 points27 points 8 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
Mine dropped back to 756/850 due to taking out a loan for a 3rd rent house. Even with the loan interest and operating costs factored, I'm making 18% profit on my 20% down-payment and closing costs, per year. I'll have it paid off in 5-6 years.
I'm starting the snowball now, so that in 10 years, I'm earning $6-8k per month with minimal effort. At that point, credit score means nothing.
[–]MGMOWNow1978[S] 9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Awesome work!
[–]Konsaki19 points20 points21 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
And this is why conversing with other men is preferable.
A man can look at something another man has done, respect the effort, learn how it's done, congratulate the accomplishment and then choose to implement his own version if he so chooses or strike off on a different venture.
Yes, there is envy but there's that 'drive' to improve! That I respect.
[–]MGMOWNow1978[S] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I've been thinking about getting into that game myself, risky as fuck though.
[–]Konsaki11 points12 points13 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
First mistake is calling it a 'game'. It's business, plain and simple. Being in the right frame of mind is the most important aspect to successfully making money, no matter what you do.
Second, research until your ass grows into your chair. If you jump into a venture uninformed, you're just spinning your wheels at best or burning money at worst.
Thirdly, home rental is actually stable, so long as you purchase good homes to begin with and get good tenants. For the homes, it helps if you have knowledge of building construction and repair so you can screen the polished turds out of your purchase lists before you get suckered. For the tenants, price your homes so the riff-raff don't even bother renting from you. If you have cheap rents, you get cheap tenants.
Finally, when you have to make repairs, and it's 'when' not if, make sure you consider spending more than the 'cheapest' fix. You get what you pay for in repairs. An example is when an AC went out on one of my houses. I had the option to repair and recharge with coolant for $3000 or replace the entire 7yr old system for $8000 that was more up-to-date, took cheaper coolant and had a 1yr no cost warranty. Why do the $3000 fix when something else might break next week and you're out another $3000 but still have the same crappy AC?
[–]DeMeza0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That’s some good advice.
[–]NewLifex1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Very true. When I read your post I wasn't jealous at all. I instantly thought what could I do to make money like that? Dude has his shit together. Respect where it's due.
[–]OutWithTheNew0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
A family friend came to a 'crossroads' with his employer of almost 30 years and basically just walked away. He has several rental properties and just lives off that.
Unfortunately there's not much around here for accessibly priced real estate.
[–]Konsaki0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm not sure what kind of area you live in, but there's always options for entering the rental market. In fact, living in a high cost housing area could be useful for starting out, assuming you can get the seed money.
One option is to build or buy a 4 bed, 2 bath house, focusing on the non-master bedrooms and communal areas with the idea of you living out of the master bedroom with your own bathroom and renting out the other 3 bedrooms. The renters would basically pay for your mortgage but you'd have to share the house with your renters.
Another option is for you to live out of the same house by yourself for a year, then move out of it into another house you saved up the down payment for over the year, then turn the first one into a rent house. That's basically the option I'm using right now. It allows me to live in the house and identify the problems it has, then fix them by my own hand or wait for a sale on materials to save money.
[–]andreyred12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
what are you using to check it? credit scores go up to 850. lol
[–]MGMOWNow1978[S] 31 points32 points33 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
In the US they go to 850, not in the UK.
[–]Haywood_Jablomie422 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That damn metric system!
[–]silive 12 points13 points14 points 8 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link
Mine is 820 out of 850 and the only reason it's not 30 point higher is "Because you do not have a history of the installment loans". In other words, I do not like spending money I do not have on things I do not need to impress people I do not know. Good.
[–]mugenowns9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
The whole credit score system is retarded. If you don't borrow enough money then you get a lower score. Because paying cash for everything is the smart thing to do so they punish you. It's a trap
[–]brian5960 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
"HOW DARE YOU BE SMART" i actually rarely ever use my credit card, nonetheless got a 785/800 :D
[–]Konsaki0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It makes sense if you think about the fact that if you don't use credit, there's no records to show you're trustworthy.
It's like having a woodsman come out of his cabin on the mountain and him trying to convince you that he's actually a very skilled painter and trying to sell you some but he just left all his art at the cabin. You're going to be skeptical because you don't see any evidence.
[–]mugenowns0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Right, but they don't usually count utilities or rent to that. It's only borrowing money and then paying that makes you look good. I still think it's a big scam
[–]prslover 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Same.
Kinda pisses me off that it affects my otherwise perfect score though😂
[–]TwentyOneBeers9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
LuL having to have a credit score is ludicrous to begin with. Modern slavery 101
To be fair, you don't have to use the credit system to survive and thrive. It's an option, such as walking to work versus driving a car versus hiring a cab versus using public transport. Each are viable but have their own downsides.
The credit system is made for two reasons: to strip suckers of their money by trapping them with 'minimum payments' or accelerate wealth growth of opportunists.

[–]striaghtWHITEmale4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

[–]SlashFang 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
How did you achieve this?
[–]MGMOWNow1978[S] 13 points14 points15 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Just making payments on time etc. really. I also buy a my shopping on a credit card and clear in full every month, that probably helps
[–]HeyDontDoxMe4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
You need to make lots of money... lots n lots of money.
[–]Konsaki2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Incorrect.
You need time and diligence. A little ingenuity on how to work the system also helps you start if you have bad or no credit but mainly time and diligence.
To game the system, for new/bad credit histories, take out persona loans of $500 and then pay them off after a month. The trick is to not use the money, just store it in a savings/checking account until you pay the loan off the following month. Depending on the bank, you can get a $0 fee loan, and just pay $5 to $10 in interest for a relatively large bump in credit score.
Of course, this trick only works in the low end range, such as 450-600 credit score range. Thing is, a 20-40 point bump could save you thousands on a car loan you take 6 months down the line, assuming you're an idiot and make minimum payments.
[–]executedigging3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You need long credit history, with multiple types of credit with no missed payments, very low credit utilization.
[+][deleted] 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
[–]Flatlandcavalry 5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Correction. He can have his pick of any loan
[–]OutWithTheNew1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Financing is a tool, a mechanism. With a high credit score you'd have to be a fool to take on a high interest loan. If your money can sit in an investment and make more money than a finance agreement would cost, it's an easy choice.
[–]DTreatz2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Got damn m8 lmao
[–]JohnBravo99901 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
A lot of women have great credit scores. They religiously make minimum payments on their maxed out credit cards. They love giving all of their money away paying interest on debt.
[–]LoudEagle0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Indeed. My last ex had a much higher credit score than me, but she also had something in the neighborhood of $40k USD in debt on cards alone.
She would make fun of me from time to time because my score was much lower. It wasn't something I could control (the lowering). Back in '09 when the economy went sour I was laid off, lived off savings, paying everything on time, for almost 2 years. Finally got a place that would hire me, but the damage was done. Been building it back up ever so slowly.
[–]owninfools007 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A credit score is not a determination of wealth. It just shows how much and how long you’ve been playing kissy face with the banks.
Either way, good shit.

When I saw 998, my first thought was of when I was a kid and I stuck a thermometer under hot tap water and it exploded. How does anyone get that high of a credit score? Did you take out and pay back a loan from the Pope?

I think mgtow isn't related to credit score, it's age.. I'm a young guy and my credit score is shit, I'm using a credit card to build credit, I have no loans/owe no money, I have had 3 secured loans and purchase gas and groceries weekly in a set pattern, still only have a fair credit score..
