When, I went monk mode. The car need not have any status.
So my main factors became: reliability; good price-quality ratio. Cool wasn't a factor anymore.
I also was when I bought my last car (right after my last relationship ended), in debt and broke. So I was in no position to shop for cool either, but for the best option price-quality-reliability wise. So I could lease (-buy) a car that was plain-boring-reliable 5 year old, with great maintenance history. I payed it of in 2 years. And all other debts as well. And I managed to save.
The car has been great for me the past 4 years. Cheap, reliable. A great help (especially after I payed it off) to get my finances on track, and have some savings. I love this plain-boring-reliable car alot.

If I had money to spend on fun travel. I would more consider getting a motor-driving license and driving a motorcycle. That I can imagine to be fun and free experience. Cars I don't care for much. And if I really wanted to have fun driving a car, I would be more prone to rent a really cool car for a day or week to get my rocks off.

OP here. My car preference went from BMWs to old beat up ones. I no longer care what others think and I just pick a car that is reliable yet shabby enough that I don't care about extra scratches. I also like shabbier cars because it helps me fly under the radar. My financial situation is better than ever though.

I really want a Dodge Challenger. I have since watching the Dukes fly around in the General Lee, jumping creeks and the sheriff. I have enough in the bank to just go buy one if I feel like it, and have come close a few times. But no man with a pile of money in the bank really drives a sports car if he doesn't really need one. A beat up pickup truck and a POS HHR pretty much do it for me. As long as both perform their function, I can't really see replacing them with something that will only really be for vanity.

I have 3 pickup trucks, the newest is a GMC 2500HD made in 2004.

You are totally invisible to 99.8% of all women driving that, because it's not an $80,000 Ford Gucci LTD Platinum model on 22 inch rims that shine brighter than the sun.

I've had some pretty nice sports sedans in the past, but only trucks make the grade, because I'm a furniture builder, blacksmith, knifemaker, stair builder, cut firewood, and plow snow.

Trucks are practical

I still drive my first car and have the same plan of fixing it and keeping it forever because it meets all the parameters of a future classic. I've also recently bought a pretty old project that is almost road ready, and I'm in the process of adopting my grandma's abandoned car.

Basically my taste hasn't changed, but the amount of energy I have for projects increased drastically.

Never bought new cars, what for? A new car loses about 25% of its value as soon as it comes out of the lot.

I have a 98 Grand Marquis for weekend trips, love it as it is such a smooth and comfy ride.

I only spent about 4k on it (3k to buy, 1k to fix details).

Never bought a single vehicle with the thought of “will chicks like it”. The question was always will I like it. I like subtle cars.

My least “subtle” car is my 89 mustang. Looks fairly stock except for the inter cooler poking out the front bumper. Makes over 700whp and runs 9s in the 1/4 while banging gears.

My daily is a 2018 f150 and my other vehicle is a grand Cherokee diesel. None of those get chicks wet, and that’s just how I like it.

Sold my car, and I now use Uber or take the subway. Prefer it like this, and idgaf what anyone else thinks.
