Families are more important than individuals here in India. There is a saying here, that you don't marry two individuals here, you marry two families i.e. first Groom's family should like Bride's family, then Bride's family should like Groom's family, then Groom's family would approve the Bride, then Bride's family would approve the Groom, and then they let the Bride and Groom meet.
