These kind of stories enrage me. Why the fuck does the man always have to pay child support, why does the man always have to give the woman all of the things he worked for, why does the woman always get the kids even if she is a terrible parent. Disgusting.

This is the one reason if any to never marry, the tangible financial consequences. Not to mention the intangible ones like nagging, no freedom, basically having a replacement for your mother.

I know a guy who takes home $700 a month after alimony, child support, paying wifely debts, etc. He rents a room in a house for $500 a month so he lives off $200 a month. Of course he has to take the bus and skips meals to save money. DO NOT EVER MARRY NOR COHABITATE

I feel you though. I pay child support and for daycare entirely on my own cause she’s too much of a deadbeat and I wanted my kid to experience socialization before kindergarten. She still lives in my old house with a new guy and their new kids, collects money from baby daddy 1 aka me, baby daddy 2, her current dude, and daddy government of course.

Except I only make like 52k in a good year. Either way it’s crap.

This scares me the most. I make 6 figures and it's all mine. I couldn't imagine forking half over plus paying for the kids school, insurance, and everything else. My grandfather dropped out of high school and worked his ass off to become a very successful businessman. Millions. Noe he is 70, divorced twice, and can barely provide for himself. Both exes got money, and new guys to take care of them. Fuck the risk.

Hate to Monday morning quarterback here. The advice from a attorney that’s comes to the sub every so often is when shits going south. Quit your job, don’t make it obvious but it will be assumed she’s leaving because of that. After the divorce is finalized, grow your wealth back according to your bills. Why lose life when the money isn’t going to you anyways? Now that the order is in place, unless you can get the courts to revaluate your case fast after your money dips you are facing jail time and or penalties, even if you lost your job. Happened to my brother with no fault of his, he was making a good amount of money. She leaves he gets canned from unforeseen work issues he now has a warrant out for his arrest because of failure to pay. He’s had other jobs but the state took his license because of failure to pay he no longer can get anywhere near the pay he was before because of no license. He was living in the streets until a family member took him in. I don’t understand how this can be legal, to make a man destitute just because he had a family and then lost it.

Similar story here, excepting the 6 figs. Married a single mother at 25, sired a kid of my own. Got left "for reasons" after 16 years, paid child support for 3 years, no alimony. Luckily no debt on either side, and no cash assets to lose (as there were none).

Yeah, paying taxes on money I had to give away really chapped my hide. And, like you, I have made more money after the divorce than I ever did while married. Funny how that works out.

One thing that helps is maxing out your pre-tax retirement options. Starve the tax man by feeding your tradition 401k/IRA and HSA. If you plan on contributing to your kids' college, your state may offer tax relief for 529 plan contributions.

Hang in there, man. It'll be over before you know it.

But don't worry. You've learned your lesson now, it'll take you longer to get there, but you make more than enough to keep pressing on and eventually win out. Men like you usually aren't ruined by a single marriage mistake. Takes multiple to send you to jail / the grave.

I highly recommend you look into minimal living. My expenses per year amount to $13,000. Even at your 1/4th pay capacity, you can put money away if you cut expenses that low, or near to it.

I have a theory: seeing that 50% of marriages end up in divorce, and seeing that almost everyone is married which means 50% of the ENTIRE male population would be divorce raped at some point, it would probably not be an exaggeration to say that divorce is the true number one hidden cause of our economic malaise. With 50% of men paying what amounts to tribute (alimony) and penalty taxes and kept in synthetic poverty, this may be the answer to America’s economic problems.

I don't understand the notion of having to get married, nor is it necessary to be single. Just live in sin - at least in my country the only thing you risk when living in sin is half of your apartment/house and half of the things you bought together. If you had your house before you met the girl she wont even see a piece of that.
Have kids and girl - no risk of alimony, taking over debts, splitting of accounts et.c.
