I witnessed this shit firsthand with my parents.

My mom hadn't worked for years, but she kept the house and the kids in the divorce. My dad moved into a somewhat crummy apartment.

He ended up sueing my mom for custody of my brother and I (and won) because she couldn't support us. The fact that they thought giving 2 kids to a woman without a job was ever a good idea in the first place was really the fucked up part.
