I am a white male who is surrounded professionally by minorities. I grew up in a horrible area. My HS janitor earned a trip to death row while at work... Most of the minorities I work with tell much healthier stories about their childhood, some have worse. I spent time with "the patriarchy" this weekend. I watched this guy appear to organically mention to everyone he spoke with that his sister was about to complete her Masters Program in the next few weeks. He got two emails of VPs at companies. Someone suggested that his 4 year old son become an attorney and he responded, "That would be hard, his mom and I don't really know any attorneys.". His son is 4, He's already thinking about network links for a 4 year old. As a white person, I was never trained on those things. I have never maintained relationships with people for reasons other than the entertainment factor.

He is doing much better financially than I am. His life doesn't look appealing to me. At parties he talks to people's boring dad's who manage teams that mitigate risk for companies when determining which medical packages they will offer. I would rather sit quietly or talk about a traeger with a golden retriever.

If you want in to the patriarchy stop being exciting, and treat every interaction as a job interview or an attempt to get an interview for others in your network.
