How to be a rich men:
How to be a rich women: 1. Marry a rich guy 2. Divorce
[–]RevolutionaryPea722 points23 points24 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Divorce isn't even necessary. She was a rich woman anyway just by being married. She would have got anything she wanted with him while he probably hasn't had sex with her for years. Divorce just makes things official.
[–]timleykis6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Think about it.. She would never have to do housework ( house keeper) or look after the kids ( au pair) just fuck her husband... Was was so hard about that? OK so he looks like smegal but..
[–]Vegebanana24 points25 points26 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is correct. Most women billionaires are divorcees or inherited their wealth.

He literally could have hired a $100,000 escort (lmfao) every single day for 25 years and still pay under $1 billion for that entire time, which is about 2.5% of what he's losing to his ex. He could've bought a $3,000 sex doll per hour for 25 years and be under $680 million. (Course sex dolls haven't been very high quality until the past couple years, but that's beside the point...)
Obviously when his business was just starting and he wasn't rolling in money he wouldn't be doing these things, but that kills the joke
[–]fmanly14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I can't really imagine what a $100k/day escort would be like, but something tells me she'd be a bit more youthful than his ex...
[–]Makonar2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Most high quality escorts are much less than that... like a 10K a night hooker is basically a 9-10 and is able to hold a conversation and looks presentable at any occasion - you can take her to a corporate party, a high class dinner or on vacation to hawaii... the 100K a night is basically any celebrity you fancy....
[–]fmanly1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, I was being facetious. Obviously for $100k/day you could get literally anybody.
And I actually re-ran the numbers. It is more like $175k per HOUR. That is just a ridculous sum - no escort charges that.

Literally every woman on this list either inherited their wealth, or obtained it in divorce. EVERY single one. A few have titles as company CEOs and such, and you'll note they're an heir of a previous owner.
Now look up the list of men. The majority seem to be well-known founders of companies, often starting from modest means, at least in the top 10.
I've read there was one Chinese woman, forgot name, who supposedly actually worked for her wealth - she was collecting wastepaper from companies in the us in the 80s and 90s and was shipping it off to China to make packaging material and now is very wealthy.

The legend of the self-made female billionaire. She married Bigfoot and disappeared into the wilderness, never to be seen again. Some say that they've awaken late at night to go to the bathroom in the woods and have seen some of her wastepaper blowing down the trail to this day...

In all fairness, he was poor as sh1t when they married, and she did help him at the beginning of Amazon. Now, to which extent only they know, but all things considering the payout seems somewhat legit given his wealth.

My take on it is more simple, he CHOOSE to get married. It was a choice. By signing a marriage certificate he agreed to give her half his current and future net worth. That's what marriage is. He was not forced to make this bad financial decision. He could have got a prenup or chose not to signed away half of everyhing, but he didn't.
I am done giving any sympathy whatsoever to foolish men who willingly sign these absurd documents and then are surprised when half their net worth walks out the door. Cheating doesn't even enter the equation, because he already signed away his net worth when they got married. Jeff Bezos is stupendously lucky to only lose 1/3 of his net worth.
[–]fmanly1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm sure most of us who were married agree that it was a dumb decision, but there is a reason that courts don't uphold unconscionable contracts. The punishment for being dumb shouldn't be indentured servitude.
In this case Bezos still has many billions of dollars, so it isn't like he is really facing significant hardship. However, there are lots of guys who end up being piled with alimony and child support to the point where they can't even afford to rent an apartment and feed themselves, while working two jobs. Often men are jailed for simply being unable to pay support, and then they lose their licenses and so on and basically become unemployable.
Sure, they were a party to their own ruin, but so are you and I, as citizens of the society whose courts enforce these laws. Sure, the guy didn't HAVE to get married, but the citizens don't HAVE to punish him for being dumb either.
Back when I got married I saw marriage as something that it isn't. Sure, you agree to share your possessions, but you also agree to love one another and not withold sex and a whole bunch of other things. The problem is that courts don't do anything to uphold ANY of the traditional marriage vows EXCEPT for the sharing of possessions. So, even if you're a strict libertarian you're basically enforcing a contract for which there is no consideration really.
Lots of guys make the mistake of getting married, but they're being advised to do so by just about everybody around them. Family, teachers, religious leaders, media, you name it. All are pro-marriage. Subject millions of men to indoctrination and, big surprise, a lot of them end up being indoctrinated.
And let's not forget that in a lot of these divorce proceedings there is outright fraud, with false accusations being filed to manipulate custody and weaponize the criminal justice system as leverage. This isn't just a civil dispute - the police and DAs are in on it too, and that is taxpayer dollars almost always going towards punishing men and failing to investigate false accusations.
So, yes, the smart move as an individual is to stay far away from this corrupt arrangement. However, that doesn't mean that we can't feel some compassion for those who were deceived, or who deceived themselves, or anger against a system that perverts justice in so many ways.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, all good points. Maybe I should clarify what i said as I dont have any sympathy for men who lose half their wealth because that's what is they signed up to do.
Sure, if they get completely crushed in court and end up owing substanially more due to alimony and child support that's clearly not fair. But half, although still not fair if the husband is more wealthy, is what was agreed upon so it should be expected when the divorce is finalized.

That Lauren Sanchez chick, even having an ultra chad millionaire such as Patrick Whitesell couldn't fill her up.. Thats crazy man.
Hypergamy is in the nature of woman. Her husband was rich man but not richest man on the earth.

[–]AdrenalineJunkySloth23 points24 points25 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I think they would argue that she supported him, was there for him, comforted him, helped him with designs, ideas, etc.
I still don't think she deserved 38 BILLION fucking dollars but yea. The law... is stupid.
[–]SomethinLikDis4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
What always confuses me is this is supposed to be a court and whoever would be saying she did this or that would be adopting a burden of proof. Helped with designs, proove it! Did x and y for him, PROOVE IT!

Married 25 years, paid $38B. That is $173k/hour, assuming a 24x7 work week. If she only charged for sex it would probably be more expensive than a manned mission to the moon.

The really perverse thing about divorce is that the more successful you are, the more you are punished. And as far as lower-cost alternatives, you could approach any living, breathing escort or porn star you wanted, and offer them $250K, held in escrow by a law firm, for being your exclusive companion for a year. There isn't any one of them who wouldn't jump at the chance. But nope, instead, you buy the rules of the plantation, buy into some decent-looking but ultimately kind of lame upper middle-class Ivy League female, and get a bill bigger than the annual budget of most countries for it. Great.

Holy fucking shit.... 38 billion??? Am I reading this right???! You don't need that much!
[–]bt9990 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Apart from the $38B, imagine how much money he would have made without this distraction.
[–]Tyl3rmagnus0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
99.9% of the world population don't know how much 38 billion dollars really is. This basically means your family is settled for millennia's generation after generation if they're not retarded enough to lose that kind of money.
Something tells me this is gonna be a profession in the future. Were technology is so advanced. A man can be a woman and vice versa. Where men will pose as super hot women. Who will go after rich guys to steal their money. You wouldn't be the wiser as they could simply change back to their original sex. Its not gonna be robbing a bank anymore. But robbing rich old men.
