There is no such a thing as genetic line, and yes it is irrelevant. We only were sure of that in the past 100 years. ITS only about stealing the man resources, women dont care about stealing a genetic line, they are not that deep. They are emotional and instinctive, they will go for Alpha fucks, and get whoever bucks them in the end. No such as thing as genetic overthinking, you are mistakenly assuming women are rational.
And men didnt evolve to know the kids were theirs either. For most of our evolutionary history we always tend to pump and dump, because men were never sure they were the fathers.
Having said this, a lot of blame is to be put on religion, and other social engineering, that made men submit to the idea of fatherhood and associate it with success when we men are no different than other males in animal species. Go ask a lion to settle with a female, and force him to pay taxes, eat shit and work. He will not.
But i guess, in humans, you just need a religion, or a bunch of pop science beliefs, and men will fight each other for a bone, or to spread their genetic legacy, which is ridiculous for you to even waste your time thinking about it. None of your ancestors in their right minds, would slave away for a genetic legacy. And most of your ancestors are Chads and Tyrones, make no mistake. Their legacy is diluted, if you can call it that, and no matter how many women you fuck, and how many "genes you spread", your genes will be erradicated by nature if they are not suitable for the circumstances. The argument for the genetic legacy is bullshit, and keeps men worrying about something that in the end is bullshit.

The idea of fatherhood came about because children with significant paternal investment are better able to outcompete their peers than those who don't. Look at statistics from children (esp. boys) raised by single-mothers. No matter how many variables you control for the effect is still significant (including controlling for a second income i.e. stepfather). Fatherhood emerged and became commonplace because it makes your children more effective, not because a sky fairy told you too.

My grandpa played the field literally all over the world in the late 50s early 60s (he worked for the State Department). He stopped in like 62 when my grandma had her 2nd child. He was having some therapy in the mid 90s and thought it would be good to come clean as all of the kids were out of the hoouse. Maybe he thought some statute of limitations had run out, and she'd forgive him?
He was damn lucky she didn't divorce him - maybe because the extended family (including two refugee families in DC alone) would be impacted as well.
