I’ve always worked out since I was 12 at least off and on pretty much my whole life. When I can stay disciplined for a good solid year or two my body is just impressive.

The thing that always screwed with my discipline though would be those random times where I was justifiably just not in condition to get a great workout so just would skip the gym that day. Those days can sometimes lead to a week, and then weeks add up quick.

I was talking to a particularly well built dude at work the other day and we of course were discussing our training. I brought up my problem having a mental block to the gym if I’m tired or hungry or hungover or stressed or whatever making me so anxious I won’t get a good lift that I just don’t go those days.

He said something that really has helped my problem. I’m still not perfect in my discipline but it’s definitely a better mindset these days. Anyways he said something like “you’re not going on those days just cuz you’re anxious and feel like a good lift is the only lift. You’ve got realize that on a non rest day going in and pussyfooting a shitty workout is still good. It’s totally fine, my intensity is just not always there. Sometimes I’m so out of it I just do some bench and bail. But I still just go and I don’t feel bad about it. It usually picks me up just to go honestly and I’ll suddenly get energized for a good workout. But even if I have a shitty workout it puts me in a better mood the rest of the day.”

Anyways was reading a post where a guy said we should give each other more advice. I just literally had to use his advice this past week (working tons of hours in sales for the 4th of July) and it made a big difference for me. Hoping it helps one of you dudes!
