Best man I ever met had no arms and no legs. Rather than sit around and feel sorry for himself, he developed an amazing personality. He's the kind of guy who was like a living campfire of love and high energy. He had this smile that made you feel like a million bucks. He was always smiling.

I met him when I was working at an office job. He hired on as a customer service / front desk worker. He worked hard and earned everything he got. Worked two jobs and went to school. Within a year he was my boss. Before I could blink he was a mid-level manager.

Then, he married the CEO's daughter, bought a big house, had a couple of kids. This guy was dealt one of the worst hands life can give you, and he made the most out of it.

When his second kid was a year old his wife confessed she'd been cheating on him. She was tired of being married to a quadruple amputee and she wanted a divorce.

He lost his job, his house, his kids, the bitch took everything.

The most fucked up thing though, was the last time I saw him. I helped him clean out his desk at work. That fire, that warmth that radiated from him? The bitch took that too. I'll never forget the walk out of the office for the last time. The dull whirr of the electric motor, unshaven face, dead look in his eyes, and for the first time in the eight years I'd known him he wasn't smiling.

Life couldn't kill him, but a bitch did.
