I’m changing wall signs throughout this newly remodeled wing where I work. Bathroom signs are for “women”, and “bathroom”. Old Sign on the doors say “Women” and “Men”….

I ask the very pretty African American woman at the front desk why this is…she responds as follows:

Her: the bathroom on the left is for women only, the bathroom on the right is for every gender.

Me: so the men have to share a bathroom with everyone?

Her: yes. It’s being inclusive of all genders.

Me: so where is the men’s only bathroom?

Her: there is one left in this building, it’s across the hall wall in the other wing.

Me: so we men lost all but one bathroom in this whole building? (Easily a 20,000 sq ft building)

Her: I guess you could look at it that way, or you could say we are all being inclusive to all genders.

Me: so how many women’s bathrooms are gender inclusive now?

Her: (gets an annoyed look on her face) there aren’t any. They’re all women’s restrooms!

Me: (looking incredulous) that doesn’t seem very inclusive…doesn’t it bother you to think that I could be in the bathroom with my penis in my hand using the urinal and you could walk right in and not only see my penis but have to use the stall right next to me? It kinda bothers me…

Her: (looking bothered by the visual) no it doesn’t bother me at all.

Me: what about if you’re in the stall changing your tampon and I walk in start to use the urinal and we are only separated by 6 inches and a stall wall?

Her: (looking VERY uncomfortable) I wouldn’t do that. I’d use the women’s only bathroom!

Me: it’s nice that you now have that option. I guess men don’t get that option…does that seem fair or does that seem biased?

Her: I don’t make the rules…

Me: ok, well I guess I’ll see you in the bathroom sometime then. Have a good day
