Mainstream massmedia 2017 in a nutshell

Labels are useful because they let us convey a rough idea of our thinking to others succinctly. Of course they don't give me your exact position on every issue, but I would know an estimate of what you value in society.

As for birth control, the taxpayer funding it is basically subsidising irresponsible behaviour. And when you subsidise stuff you get more of it. Even with free birth control, irresponsible behaviour very often leads to mistakes which leads to single mothers again subsidised by tax payer dollars. I would not want to have tax payer dollars subsidise birth control or single motherhood. This will wreck havoc for a few of irresponsible people, but their struggles will bring back stigma against irresponsible behaviour in society, and save taxpayer dollars.

So, what label is appropriate for somebody who is:

Generally against gun control.
Generally against most modern feminisim.
In favor of removing all mention of marriage in law, but failing that ensuring that any pair of people can be married if they wish regardless of gender.
Opposed to abortion.
Believes that birth control should not only be free, but mandatory (either via implantation or sterilization), and only removed with a license.

I would not want to have tax payer dollars subsidise birth control or single motherhood. This will wreck havoc for a few of irresponsible people, but their struggles will bring back stigma against irresponsible behaviour in society, and save taxpayer dollars.

It would also cause unnecessary strife to millions of children born into poverty with irresponsible parents, and it will not save any taxpayer dollars when you consider what it will cost to deal with those kids as they grow up. If you think food stamps are expensive, you should see what it costs to run a prison.

I think we'll have plenty of irresponsible behavior whether we subsidize it or not. It makes far more sense to simply prevent the problem at the source. No conception means no worrying about who is sleeping around.

I'd be sorry for the children. I really would. But public policy can not be dictated by emotion. It was the irresponsible parents who were responsible for the child's condition not the state. Blaming the state instead of the parents is like blaming the bystander for not helping out efficiently for a death in a drunk driving accident.

Prisons are expensive, but the miserable lives of the irresponsible people (who will have to keep asking their family and friends for help) will bring back the stigma against irresponsible behaviour.

The main reason I'm against free contraception is because people can use a virtually unlimited amount of that paying very little in return. I would be happy for the state to provide free abortions as a woman can have at most 3-4 abortions and conceive again. Thus a person sacrifices some of her reproductive potential in exchange for the abortion. Thus the loss per person. Is bounded and the person pays something while taking the service as well, setting up a workable incentive structure. Your point 5. would also work in theory but I don't see it being implemented in any remotely Democratic system of government.

However, the parents probably can't pay for my windows, which means one way or another I'll probably end up paying for my windows, even though I had nothing to do with the problem. Then I'll end up paying for the kids to be jailed. I doubt that the suffering of the kids will change anybody's behavior, because if those parents were prone to thinking more than 15 seconds into the future they wouldn't have had the kids in the first place.

Well, if you're going to limit yourself to things likely to be implemented by our current government then:

You'll be paying for some contraception.
You'll be paying for some abortions.
You'll be paying for lots of single moms.
You'll be paying to lock up lots of people in jail.

The current state is one of those compromises that makes absolutely no sense. If you made single moms suffer that might deter some single moms (though I suspect most are beyond deterrence). If you let kids starve to death that would fix the cost issue. If you provided lots of free contraception and really promoted it you'd probably have a lot fewer kids running around. However, since half the population objects to any of these things we do all of them halfway, with most of the costs of all of them and few of the benefits of any.

Democracy is half the problem. It entrusts the solution to the problem to the same people who are causing the problem in the first place.

Deterrence fails when things like going to jail are celebrated. While the war on drugs was a failure in the US, as the culture started glamorising drug use, being tough on crimes has led to decrease in their rate elsewhere.

I agree with you there. With the current state of affairs the USA will probably collapse as a culture in the next couple of decades. 36% of the US is on welfare and that's without even considering Medicaid (it jumps to around 50% if you include that). That's worse than the corresponding number for much less advanced welfare state like India (where 30% of the population is on welfare). Such numbers are not sustainable especially given that they're growing.

I don't see free contraception really solving anything though. When the state gives free stuff it can be sustainable only if the person availing the free stuff also gives up something. Thus free abortions perhaps, but not free contraception.

Well, the flip side is that GDP continues to grow. That enables the country to pay for a lot of social benefits. I think a shift to basic income will make the welfare state a lot more efficient in general.

However, I do think that birth rates are going to be something to watch. As you say if you subsidize something it tends to grow, and if you pay people simply to have kids whether they're good parents or not, you end up creating a more and more expensive problem over time.

This is part of why I advocate for mandatory contraception/sterilization. It is a bit of a pipe dream, but it would make it possible to greatly contain the problem. Even if you let anybody have a kid if they just ask it would eliminate all unplanned pregnancies, and all abortions as well. If you applied even fairly minimal standards (like having a job or paying a moderate fee) it would tend to skew births towards the portion of the population that is statistically more likely to raise them well. You can obtain a lot of benefit without getting into stuff like eugenics.

Honestly I'm not sure how expensive they are in the US, but I suspect like everything else they cost more here.

The issue isn't that people can't afford them. The issue is that people will simply choose not to buy them.

If they take that 3 cent pill it costs them 3 cents. If they instead don't take the pill and instead have a baby, it costs them nothing, and I get to pay via my taxes many thousands of dollars per year. Then when the kid drops out of school I get to pay for their life of crime.

So, if 3 cents is the difference between me paying for a baby or not, then I'll happily toss them the 3 cents. Personally I'd go a step further and spend a bit more to just implant everybody with contraceptives, or give them reversible sterilization.

When somebody is acting like an adult then I'm all for treating them like an adult. However, if they're going to act like a child then we're going to have to put them in the play pen. Doing otherwise just means a lot of money spent replacing the china in the dining room...

We have all those horrific things because of "progressive" and liberal ideologies. These race riots don't happen in conservative states they happen in Canadian-like liberal cesspools like portland. a liberal globalist agenda (like what you have now) is the cause of all the world's woes.
