I believe that the thing that makes great guitarists / filmmakers / scientists / explorers is intrinsic. I know that some of my greatest projects were because people told me that I couldn’t do something.

To be lauded and supported is great, but not always necessary. I believe that intrinsic motivation and drive is the most important element.

This person is say that extrinsic motivation is important. Thus, their opinion of themselves is completely dependant on others. Wow. I would argue that they’re not a great “whatever”.

Great people (of either gender) rise through the shit to the top because a part of what makes them great is perseverance and self motivation.

If people actually think that the only thing stopping women from being great at something is lack of positive role models they have no idea what makes people great to begin with.

Well historically, men were the ones out hunting, fighting, protecting and providing overall safety for the women while she stays home, takes care of the kids, gathers berries, plants etc. It is hard to unwind all the biological code that has been working so well for humans for many years. I'm not saying women can't do it, I'm just saying on average most women want to stay home while the guy works his ass off. In my experience, one of the only reasons a girl would want to provide for herself is if she wants to sleep around with multiple people. It is very hard for a girl to find a guy that is willing to provide a woman shelter, food, etc if he knows that she is fucking a bunch of guys. On her own she is free to fuck anyone she pleases without worry of getting kicked out.

The vast majority of men aren't great at anything either. Conflating mean and variance with respect to ability.

The other thing is that being great at anything usually takes a degree of risk-taking, as well as being naturally excellent. Women, higher in trait neuroticism, don't like to take these risks, and it's biologically motivated because men are more disposable with respect to reproduction.

So it has less to do with anything cultural and almost everything to do with the essential natures of heterosexual man and heterosexual woman and the biological division of labor seen not just in the human ape but in many dimorphic species.
