The phrase "nice guy" has been twisted over the years into a derogatory term or insult. It now means someone who is a safe last resort to fall back on for a woman. I'm not sure if that were the case in the past at all OP. It's what we see in the media: in past and present films/ series. I can imagine women were kept in check by social means in the past. Nowadays those moral standards have been flushed through the toilet and the female nature is at a rampage. So I think the "nice guy" never had a chance only it's more visible in the present.

Like I posted earlier: the way I see women is being apes, able to wield a smartphone, chasing the Silverback alfa like inmbeciles.

Just modern society and social apps honestly, I think in the past a man and a woman had to commit more, it was a partnership for life so good qualities meant more.
