Considering the circumstances back then, arranged marriage in the past were a much better deal for men than the "dating first, marriage second" system we have today, despite the risks . Just think about it:

As soon as enough of your sons reach puberty, they allow you and your wife to transition smoothly to retirement, and it is the prospect of retirement that makes people from 3rd world to have lots of children . I would argue that the only downside of arranged marriages is that they often incentivize eugenics and push for a bourgeoisie and working class. This is a downside because this eventually leads to having no economic mobility where you can be born poor and end up rich or vice versa.
