This morning, a friend of mine, a quiet gentle man, an artist, told me that his sister was just kicked out of a knitting group because she supported Trump, and because she did not adequately support LTGBQ (or whatever it is) rights.
We have politicians tell their followers who to hate, and they obediently do.
We have media figures who are biased liars, and applauded for it. Technology companies who silence dissent on their platforms.
We have angry, uneducated, deeply misguided literal children being lionized for their morality.

For a long time, at least a year, I've had this lingering sensation, usually in the middle of the night, that something was wrong. That all the basic things anyone should expect out of life in this society -- a measure of peace, respect, decency -- was actually out of reach, and receding.

Maybe it is worse than I thought. Maybe this actually is a battle.

No, they haven't. They quarantined it, which is not at all the same thing as banning. It is bad and it is censorship of a subreddit devoted to our sitting President, for Heaven's sake, but it isn't a ban.
