That's awesome. When I first started using a cast iron skillet I had all sort of hi-tech pans and whatnot. Now the only thing I use is the skillet. That fucker works for everything. I like to see more men getting back into cuisine and cooking. We do a bang up job because, pretty much like anything we do, once we turn it into a hobby we go balls to the wall with it.

Perfect example of corporatism IMO. Cast iron lasts forever you see, and that threatens the profit margins companies receive selling products over and over made from the tears of Chinese children.

This is directly related to cultural Marxism and feminism and therefore MGTOW.

My mom is old skool and cooks with cast iron. You will never have good corn bread unless it's cooked in cast iron with a base of cornmeal. Pure crunchy on outside with moist inside. Pure bliss.

I chunked the non-stick cookware once I figured out cast iron.

Collected some old skillets and dutch ovens. Put them in the oven and ran them through a self-cleaning cycle, wire wheeled them down and then coated them with flax seed oil and back into the oven at 450 degrees for an hour.....did that part 6 times. More non-stick than the "non stick" stuff I paid big bucks for.

I highly don't recommend it. Cast iron is a pain in the ass.

I had a perfectly good nonstick aluminum stovetop grill/griddle until my kids gave my a cast iron one for Father's Day. Out in the trash went the old (barely used) one, and thus began an odyssey of figuring out how to work cast iron.

Wash it, coat it with a light layer of oil, stick it in the oven for an hour at as high as my oven can go, and now it's seasoned. And the meat sticks to it. Back to the YouTube video--OK, the meat will "self release" when it's done or when it's burned black on that side. Wash it again (no soap!), then back on the burners to dry off all the water before storing it. Pull it out after 2 weeks, and...rust spots. Do I cook on the rust, or do I take another hour and a half and reseason the damn thing?

Lather, rinse, repeat.

Can't say anything about restoring but I was able to make eggs in mine today. Was nervous for months leading up to it but I finally was able to do it with no sticking.

I vinegared my faucets and shower handle just about 2 weeks ago. That shiny new under about 3, 4 months of water stone growth.

Try some baking soda/bicarb and sprinkle it on then spray the vinegar on the rust. I scrunch up some aluminium foil into a makeshift scourer (since it is much softer than steel and free) and scour it off. You can also make a sort of paste with the bicarb but i prefer my method. Both dont use any chemicals and can cook almost straight away once seasoned.

Uhh, what is the appeal of restoring cast iron cookware? I understand the appeal of restoring rusty swords, weapons, cars, and the likes because of the visual appeal.

But cast iron never struck me as aesthetically pleasing. Just curious.

Also, what is the process like?

Here it is! I used it for bacon after 4 coats. Lots of work but a great feeling of satisfaction. Cleaned up very quickly!
