He has producers and the like, who help with songwriting a great deal, and a massive team supporting him, but his substance is the primary factor in his success.

Beyonce showed up, looked pretty, sang songs other people wrote that sounded great thanks to the work of her audio engineers. Got twice as much attention as Ed did and is regarded as an incredibly and inspiring musician.

Beyonce dresses up like that because to maintain fans, she needs them to appreciate her face and body. Ed knows they'll appreciate the music.
