Translation: those companies with white and Asian men running things are kicking our ass.
Make no mistake, Asian men are not considered “diverse”. They have to score astronomically high to get accepted into Ivy League schools.
[–]Sid_Vichous9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link
That has something to do with Asian hoarding culture though. They want to take all the slots.
[–]hakoonamatata939 points40 points41 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
If you play by pure meritocracy, it doesnt matter if all the slots go to a certain community AS LONG AS they have more points and clear all requirements to get in and outperform all the other applicants in doing so. Now this system assumes there is 0 nepotism, corruption or bribery involved.
[–]cottonstokes2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
No, more points is not the only metric. That makes good test takers
[–]hakoonamatata90 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
We dont know how the give out points though. Some might have some points for sports, or volunteer work or past experience etc etc. Very few institutions today look at only points. People realized that mistake a long time ago.
[–][deleted] 30 points31 points32 points 7 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
Well it should be the best of the best. If the smartest people walking the halls of Harvard are all white and Asian then so be it. They’ve earned it.
[–]Sid_Vichous0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, but hoarding is part of their culture. They terrorize the free samples at Costco. Also, have you ever seen a napkin dispenser at an Asian restaurant?
[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points-3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Whites and Asians are more evolved.
[–]Bonesteel500 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
There is no evidence of that tbh. Once we started civilization evolution mostly stopped
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The fact that most of modern civilization came about because of whites and asians and that the darker races were living like stone age savages when discovered by whites and Asians (and still are to varrying degrees) says otherwise.
[+]r1chten-14 points-13 points-12 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link
What you neglect is whites and Asians have more money to throw at both tutoring the kids and suing the school if junior didn't get the A.
Going down pure meritocratic path sounds ideal but it ultimately will become a resource game between the haves and have nots.
[–]qoning16 points17 points18 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
If some cultures don't put a lot of emphasis on education, that's on them. My parents moved and cut significant portions from their paychecks to send me and my brother to good schools. I would do the same for my kids if I ever decide to have them.
[–]WanderlustYouth9 points10 points11 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This,
I mean no one complains about the lack of asians in football, or basketball, or hockey, or track and field...
[–]TerraEarth4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You get what you put in, why do people have to put in work for others that are clearly unwilling to do so? That makes no sense. If they want to pick up the hoe and till the fields, they can damn well do so.
[–]SirYouAreIncorrect1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
You need to fix that long before the Harvard entry process.
Lowering the standards to accommodate people that could not be tutored or do not have the raw intelligence to make it in is not the solution to this problem
However a better argument is the people with enough money to get their kids in outside of the merit system by pay off the school either illegal or legally (i.e building a new building)
[–]r1chten0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Agreed. K-12 need to be fundamentally restructured.
Lowering the standards to accommodate people that could not be tutored or do not have the raw intelligence to make it in is not the solution to this problem.
Agreed. My biggest question is do students really need 1480 SAT scores or is that a filtering mechanism? Maybe 1300? I do not know. Whatever the reasonable score is for a student to succeed make that the cutoff and entry slots should be granted via lottery.
[–]SirYouAreIncorrect0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
SAT scores are a filter, but they are not the only selection parameters
They have a minimum SAT score, and from what I understand they have modified this minimum for different races, So the minimum score for a white male is different from an asian male, which is different from a black male, and different still from any female.
Asian Males needing the highest of scores.
Once you make the SAT cut off, then there are a whole host of other factors that go into the selection including your interview / essay, any community involvement or Extracurricular activity, etc
Generally I would not be in favor of a strict SAT + Lottery System

When it comes to the schools like Harvard the kids going there are the tutors. They don’t need tutors. They are naturally smart, they are born that way, that’s why they are there to begin with. It just so happens that 99% of people on this earth that are born with intellectual superiority are white or Asian men.
He said Harvard sends recruitment letters to African-American, Native American and Hispanic high schoolers with mid-range SAT scores, around 1100 on math and verbal combined out of a possible 1600, CNN reported. Asian-Americans only receive a recruitment letter if they score at least 250 points higher — 1350 for women, and 1380 for men

Who cares. It doesn’t matter how they got more education, it doesn’t matter if it’s “fair” or not. Productive people are productive. Smarter people are smarter. I don’t care if some advantages helped them get smarter, the bottom line is they ARE smarter, that’s all that matters. If you have a disadvantage, boo fuckin hoo, then you have to work harder to get to the top. That’s life.

Asians and Indians will dominate and push out white people in top tier universities in a couple of generations in a pure meritocratic system. Hopefully you are as consistent and indifferent should such a reality come to fruition.
I am not affected since I graduated long time ago and I do not have kids. I do however see the socio-economic impact in that only Asians and Indians taking education and earning potential and reinvesting that in their communities. Asian/Indians will take their education and money back to their enclaves where they reside which is mostly in the coasts or abroad.
I am well off person that lives in a middle class neighborhood. I earn a couple of multiples of what the median is in my city. My neighborhood benefits in having me (and other well-off people) here because there is “velocity of money” given my level of spend which trickles down to other parts/people for the community. Bottom line, income disparity will further exacerbate in a pure meritocratic system because Asians/Indians will take their new found education and resulting money back to specific enclaves.

How so? I'm not sure this can be considered hoarding because many young adults from all backgrounds want to go into colleges if they have the chance. They're just grabbing like everybody else in this case.

The title of this is already aggravating. Few people have issues with "diversity". Forced diversity, arbitrary quotas, and penalties for hiring men are BAD IDEAS!
[–]Omnibrad30 points31 points32 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I have an issue with diversity. The real problem is that diversity of thought is the only diversity that matters and it is forbidden.
[–]n3n3r32 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Diversity or forced diversity? I don’t really care who it is as long as they do their job the best out of all the other job applicants. And I agree, diversity of thought is very important.
[–]cottonstokes1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's my biggest thing, diversity of thought. Don't get a clone of the white guy and call it diverse, bring actual different experiences
[–]PorkBomber15 points16 points17 points 7 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link
The problem with diversity is that it almost always turns into forced diversity in due time. You cannot have diversity without it turning into forced diversity at some point. That is just how humans are. Look at feminism, it started mildly with 'we just want equal rights hurr durr' and has devolved into 'kill all men!' in 50 or so years.
[–]80173510 points11 points12 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
The problem with diversity is also it's ALWAYS pushed in already established places/businesses. After it's been built and set up and is running profitably it's "suddenly" time to diversify and the original creators are either let go or invited to train their replacements if they want any compensation when they are let go to go fuck themselves and fetch for themselves in hopes to repeat the whole cycle.
Go diversify your own company FROM SCRATCH like the diversifieds did. Then we'll have TRUE diversity. Until then all diversity is, is robbery.
And the negative consequences of the dieversifuckyoucycation are also ALWAYS diversified to the creative hard working guys. By the not-so-diversified ones.
Let's diversify the politician's work a little. We need more politicians in the sewer cleaning business, in the coal mines etc etc etc.

I am working for a big firm. In an extent, a size comparable to Microsoft.
We have a lot of shit going through, especially from the last 3-4 years. Women are more likely to be hired for same positions (that's not written anywhere for legal reasons, but recruiters told me about it). We have an internal incubator stating OPENLY that if you want to enter, you'd better be a (black) woman or having (lesbian black) women in your team. My company tells LGBT/feminist shit on twitter every day like "so proud we fought against X discrimination at Y location". But when you challenge them to ask : what exactly did you fight ? Give us figures, names, and facts", these Marxists go completely silent. Giant firms have two kind of people : regular guys doing their jobs to tackle challenges and earn money, and useless retards (mostly females) doing nothing but advocating for toxic or useless shit. If anyone else work in a big tech firm, I guess you'll easily agree with that statement.
Sorry for bad English

Women are more likely to be hired for same positions (that's not written anywhere for legal reasons, but recruiters told me about it).
This is almost a worldwide phenomena now, visible in almost every job and happens in almost every company from small to big giants. What is worse is that there are jobs that are available only to women even though the job is perfectly doable by a man.
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah that's true, this is something I was thinking about when I saw some job propositions. In my country, this is ILLEGAL to specify a gender for a job. However you still see some "search for female waitress" etc... But man, DARE YOU put something like "searching for a male manager" and your business is closed the minute after

This idea that “diversity = better” is pretty unfounded imo. Not that I’m exactly against it but take firefighters for example. They pushed for diversity there and people have died because some of them were simply unqualified for the position outside of their “diversity” meanwhile all this evil big strong white guys who wanted to devote their lives to the cause were overlooked because obviously they’re not diverse enough. Also as we all know men and women tend to study different things. So let’s say you have 80% of engineering students being male and 20% being female but you put in a policy where your engineers are gonna be 50/50... how is that gonna work? Also also ever notice how they only really seem to care about diversity in the nice things? “We need more women in high paying fields!” Well go into those things more then. But what about like janitors or soldiers or tradesmen Overwhelmingly male... how about you fix that “inequality”

You never see this in sole proprietorships. You see this stuff in big corporations.
The people making the decisions do not have a significant stake in the success of the company. The shareholders don't have enough influence to change things either, and most of them are just indirectly invested through pensions/etc so that the people who personally gain/lose the most are far separated from the decisions.
Everybody is just motivated to not lose their job, and that means towing the line. The last thing somebody wants to do is end up going viral on twitter. If my boss wants to do something stupid, I don't care as long as I'm still getting paid. You can bet that I keep my own options open for if things go south.

What the employees said, "We still lack any empirical evidence that the demographic distribution in tech is rationally and logically detrimental to the success of the business in this industry….We have a plethora of data available that demonstrate women are less likely to be interested in engineering AT ALL than men, and it's not because of any *ism or *phobia or 'unconscious bias'- it's because men and women think very differently from each other, and the specific types of thought process and problem solving required for engineering of all kinds (software or otherwise) are simply less prevalent among women."
They are upset that women are getting preferential treatment because the ratio is being used as prima facie evidence of an ism.
The JOURNALIST then says this utter load of delusional nonsense. Completely missing any and every point.
"This argument is a much-loved trope among those who believe that tech jobs earned by women and/or people of color are being wrongly distributed away from white guys. Many of the comments in the internal discussion condemned this anti-diversity argument."
