My then-fiance and her friend were having a spat because my fiance found out I used to fuck around with that girl. She was in tears and I was trying calmly listen to her. She went on and on about how that girl can never be trusted around me, how she was a lying bitch to keep it from her, blah blah blah.

I said, "Well, if it's that much hassle, is the friendship really worth it? Maybe it's best if you just don't spend as much time together if all you'll do is fight."

She had the most stunned look on her face and said something amounting to, "YOU CAN'T CONTROL ME, DARKESTJ. WHY DO YOU HATE MY FRIENDS AND WANT TO POSSESS ME?! YOU CAN'T OWN ME!"

Knew right then just how fucked women are in the head.

This exists as an over-the-top example of contradicting one's self, but I heard it verbatim: "STOP YELLING AT ME!" Please note, I had been speaking in a calm rational tone, but the content of what I was saying was extremely damaging to her character and supported by examples. We broke up the next day (and she has since fucked my best friend).

After a round of the no-pants-bone-dance I asked my girl several months back about something I scarcely remember now and she responded, "I already told you once." I continued to press her that I couldn't remember at all due to my shoddy memory. Then she said this paraphrased gem, "If you can't remember then I want you to guess what I'm thinking."

I scoffed and flipped her over to slowly spell out for her, "... I am not a damn mind reader. Do you understand?" She muttered a slow yes and that was the last she tried that game. Since then she knows when I say I can't remember something to go ahead and spill it or drop it entirely.

EDIT: I do not claim nor desire to be alpha in any measure; I'm only applying lived and learned experiences to make my life simpler.

Let me try a couple:

I was talking to a friend of mine, whose a pretty good guy, but was average looking and had landed one of the hottest girls in school. He walked around for a month depressed, then, I heard he and the girl broke up. I was still BP to the core in those days, and I asked him:

"Hey man, why did you and her break up?"

His response was four little words "we fought too much." I had wanted to ask her out for a long time, but good little BP me thought she was out of my league. After I heard my buddy's comment, I stopped wanting to date her.

A year later, freshman year in college, my buddy gets a GF (real good guy too, his old man was a high ranking naval officer) and she complains that he doesn't spend enough time with her. So, he spends more time with her. Then she complains that his grades are falling and that she'll dump his ass if he doesn't get better scores. So, he studies to improve his grades. She complains he doesn't spend enough time with her. See the problem? She had so many red flags, that even BP me could see she wasn't worth it (as could every other mutual friend we had) despite being very pretty. We talk to the friend, and six months after they started dating, he breaks up with her. A quarter later, his grades have stabilized and he's thanking Jebus he dumped her.

With this girl from freshman year in college, let's call her K, I leaned on a bit of RP wisdom passed down through the ages from father to son, although I didn't know it was RP. Basically, men, for ages, have figured that there were just some girls who were "firecrackers". To quote PG Wodehouse, there are some girls "who consider the day ill-spent in which they have not started something calculated to shake hell's foundation." Wodehouse advises men to avoid these girls, for they are nothing but trouble. If you want the quiet life, these aren't the girls for you. They'll only land you in the soup for the rest of your life. Women love drama, and some girls are complete drama queens. K was the single biggest drama queen, the biggest "firecracker" I have ever known. My friend was very quiet, and reserved, thank goodness he broke up with her.

WRONG. This is actually a rational comment by your ex-girlfriend and it can tell you a lot about human nature. I assume most if not all of us want to live authentic lives which includes authentic interactions with other people. If these interactions don't live up to you expectations then you get disappointed. Some people attribute such high (and often unrealistic) expectations to some interactions that it affects them emotionally if they go unexpectedly. If the person doesn't have sufficient emotional control, they let it show. If your ex-girlfriend told you what her problem was, the interaction would be considered contaminated, triggering a worse state for the relationship than if she doesn't oblige. She was doing you a favor and telling the truth.

She was still an emotional child, incapable of controlling herself.

It's instructive to figure out why those things are said. In your example, she means "I want you to spend all your time trying to guess what I want. This way I appear mysterious. If I told you what I want, I would feel like a needy girlfriend that's always asking for things. "

Men and women communicate differently, these differences in styles of bonding cause tensions and often frustration. Both sides in a relationshio would do well to learn how to see things from the others way of thinking.

Women use signals to communicate, and expect people to pick up on them. Men are more likely to directly communicate their concerns or what they are thinking, and get surprised when women don't do the same. Meanwhile women get surprised and frustrated that men don't pick up on signals. I think sitting down and talking about how you two may communicate differently can go a long way to reducing these sorts of problems.

In love and dating, for many women what excites them is the mental part of a relationship. In the way that we find women bodies attractive, we should recognize that many women find spontaneity attractive in men. When she tells you she doesn't want something if she has to ask for it, I think this is subconsciously what she's getting at.

You may not see reason for why you should be spontaneous with her; just as how she may not see reason for why men are so obsessed about appearances. Successful relationships are built on mutual attention of making sure that we satisfy the needs of our other. She needs to meet you halfway on this, and you need to meet her on this.

Understanding and meeting the true needs of your partner is a huge component of being successful in relationships. If you have trouble reading what she wants, then you need to communicate to her that you are having trouble with this, and even ask for ways on how you can do better. Likewise, you need to tell her that she needs to understand that you can't read her mind and that she needs to be more direct when she needs something. Have this conversation and I promise things will be at least more open regarding what's going on.
