Not sure if this is mgtow but the last couple of sentences really hit me in the feels. The way everyone relied on the father and through my interpretation wasn't allowed to grieve or show emotion he had to be the rock in the family because he's the man. Just something that connects with me about men holding frame and always expected to be the rock. Sorry if this kinda stuff isn't permitted

To be honest, it was hella hard reading through this, and still, for some reason, the basic expectation of a blue-pilled mind is that him being an anchor ia WHAT EXPECTED OF HIM AS A FATHER.
And this is why thia is fucked up.
Shouldn't the wife pitch in and fix it as well? he isn't bringing up other family members at all.
No, it is placed on him, and if he wouldn't be able to provide that comfort, his wife would take the kids ans divorce rape thw shit out of him.
Fuck that.

Exactly what I thought I couldn't word it as well. So much for equality and empowered women . When the going gets tough women aren't anywhere to be found. Feminists want men to be emotionally open but like you said as soon as that happens she's in bed with another man with it being the husband's fault.

No this is NOT blue pilled.. .This is what it means to be a man!
You all see women as weaker and only value their pussy/child bearing ability, well, you'll find life much easier if you follow that view through to the end and you'll see..
The man is SUPPOSED to be a fucking rock!
[–]thenetoide15 points16 points17 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's the issue with the contemporary concept of equality. It's unrealistic. The traditional model understood that in a family the woman sacrificed her body by risking her life to give birth while men gave away their emotions so a family could persist through the hardships of life.
I share with my father a taste for genealogy and when you read it you see how common it used to be for a man to take care of his children after the woman died at birth. He would commonly re-marry after some time. Some could even become twice widowers. (This is important in latin-american genealogy because it can be confusing to track siblings when the two last names don't match). So indeed there was a good reason to raise boys to be cold and diligent. Unlike what feminists would make you believe, the purpose wasn't to make a women's life miserable. (please note the cynicism in my comment)
[–]FwoGiZ9 points10 points11 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A father being an emotional stability anchor in a family isn't blue pill... If you expect a wife to pitch in to fix this, you my friend, are blue pill and/or refuse to acknowledge gender differences? This is just harsh reality, nothing else. No one to blame here...
BUT... you pinpointed the injustice with great accuracy. If HE would fail at doing what's expected of him, even so maybe just temporarily, it might cost him his life, his family, his sanity. AND THIS is unfair. This is why every men need to carefully understand the extensive list of cons of getting married/making kids.
Men just gets shit done when someone has to do the dirty work with no gratitude ever. Meanwhile, women don't cook/clean anymore... See the problem?

As a father... I will be the fucking rock for my kids..... It's not placed on me.... many parents are fucking shitty and would walk out on their kids... they would call their kids a burden etc..... No... it's not placed on a man.. it is still his choice. But that's what make men fucking great... when everything feels lost, when everything feels gone the man trenches through.. by choice. NOT ALL men do this..... there are so many stories here on MGTOW about fathers who were just fucking jackasses and shitty parents etc.... The husband and wife both make individual choices of how to weather the storm.... it's just that men normally do it better that's all. We don't have any options other then to be the rock. So many stories on here when things go to shit, the women leaves the man and branch swings which is totally fucked. As a father, i'm not looking to be the rock for my wife.... but I'll damn sure be the rock for my kids..... they didn't ask to be in the situation, and i'll teach them how to deal with these situations in the future.

Why can't it be both????? Example of the patriarchy AND a hugely dysfunctional family.
[–]DWShimoda3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Because proper "Patriarchy" is never "DYSfunctional" -- the entire goal of it is the healthy, functional raising of children to stand on their own.
One cannot (validly) claim to be engaging in "stewardship" while subverting & looting your master's property. The claim of being a "steward" would simply be a LIE.
And in this case, the claim of the man that he is a "Patriarch" is also a LIE.
You're a low intellect fool.
[–]Supreme_Salt_Lord1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because its not patriarchy, someone has to he strong for others. My brother killed himself last year and my other brothers havent been the same. But someone has to remain strong for morale of others. This is true in all walks of life. Its not patriarchy or anything of the sort. Its just keeping your group strong for the sake of the group.
[–]Edgar_c6195 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Don't apologize to anyone for how you feel about that. That man took charge and I'm sure it was very difficult but at the end of the day, it made him stronger. Sometimes MGTOWs dismiss the fact that bad experiences make us stronger. That's not to say that learning from others' mistakes is better but no one knows when something like this will happen. "Oh well just don't have kids, don't attach yourself to other people and you won't get hurt". Getting hurt in the past is what made me who I am today and I would never take it back. Just like building muscle, you must be broken down and give time to heal so that when you recover, you come back stronger than before.
[–]PanderjitSingh3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I just can’t buy the idea that the suicide of a loved one makes a person stronger. Worst thing that’s happened to me. So far. No benefit at all. Only thing in my life I truly wish hadn’t happened. Other deaths and hardships I’ve dealt with relatively easily.
[–]Edgar_c6192 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
In the long run, if it didn't kill you, you learned and changed because of it. Everyone in life experiences hardships, the difference is everyone reacts to them differently according to their situation. For example, someone's family member being murdered. It is a horrible thing, no matter where or who you are. However, someone who lives in a violent country where this happens more often than not, will adjust faster and differently than people in America where people don't just walk up to you and shoot you in the face.
This also applies to why I see many people in the US being outworked or outsmarted by foreigners when climbing the success ladder. People who who come here for opportunity are HUNGRIER. They want it more. People born in the US, especially ones who have everything given to them are WEAK. They don't have that same burning desire to chase after what they want because they feel entitled and comfortable where they are.
Again, this is just to put things in perspective. It's not to say that everyone will learn from experiences like this. It depends on the person and their mindset. I personally take every hardship that comes my way and look at it as a learning experience and something to make me a better human in the long run.

The pressure of always having to be the one that keeps his shit together, to not process, to maintain the status quo under any circumstance is life-taking stressful.
When I was married my wife would break down over anything. Didn’t matter what it was. Hell, a phone call from her mom would send her spinning for days and a non-stop parade of repeating the same thing until she was over it. I mention one time something stressful at work and I’m met with a “NO I CAN’T HEAR THIS...QUIT YOUR JOB THEN.” Real gruff and dismissive. She was always “allowed” to vent on any given topic and when I started to vent it was met with a wall.
If I took my venting elsewhere most women don’t want to hear a man struggling. The only women who appear to stomach it are strippers, bartenders and therapists but even then just barely. One of the simplest and most intense pleasures of a MGTOW life is merely having a household that isn’t constantly melting down all the time. It is now a real safe space.
[–]FwoGiZ5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Women venting = offer little irrelevant emotional support i.e. "don't worry baby, you'll be fine because look at this and that!"
If she keeps bitching and venting, I can assure you that you failed somewhere... either in vetting process or how you enable her.
Now to think that it's unfair that you can't vent to her is very very blue pill. It's actually good for YOU that she doesn't let you cause if she did, she lose respect for you, lose attraction because she'd see your weaknesses. There ya go, I said it... you can't show weaknesses as a man. If you want to vent, go see a bud... basically anything you wanna do, except fuck, go see a bud. This is just how it is and to refuse to acknowledge this concept or be pissed at it is a clear sign of misundertanding of the man/woman dynamic.
[–]LazerChuck2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There is nothing wrong coming home from work on a stressful day and venting to your wife. It's not whining or bitching like a woman would. "I don't understand why Tom can't get the TPS reports. We have these daily meetings and it's like talking to a wall! Bill lost his shit on Tom today." Since we're talking about venting after a day of work, it's about a very specific thing or process not being done to my liking or standards. That isn't showing weakness or bluepill or any of that shit, quite the opposite. Not like "Sweetie people at work are being mean to me waaahhhh". You read 4 sentences of OC's post and think you know his situation when you don't know shit.
[–]Wolfoflulzstreet2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Good points - my revelation was when I was seeing a female therapist (at the time, long story) and even she was turning up a disapproving eye and giving me comments like: "You need to have some kind of plan" "You can't just have idle time on your hands" "Going back to school may not be good for you because...". I imagine her conversations had to be different for women. I mean, go into a Starbucks at 2:00pm on a random Tuesday and you'll see PLENTY of women with idle time doing god knows what.
[–]CursingWhileNursing5 points6 points7 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Exactly that. Being the tower of strength for other people while neglecting yourself is something both men and women can do.
The real problem starts when women doing this are getting celebrated as heroes, while everyone just shrugs and gives a shit about men doing it all the time, because that is just what men are there for, right?
And the problems start when it is completely fine and normal that women lose their shit about everyting and on a daily base; because then they are just "in connection with their emotions", while a man having a weak moment is seen as wimp who needs to man up.
There is a reason why almost 80% of all suicides are committed by boys and men, why the chance to get diagnosed with depression is so much lower for men, why men actually diagnosed with depression are less likely to get professional help and get it at a much later point than women.

ya...LOL. i've come just to except the unexpected from this sub. i was sure it would end that once the daughter killed herself it made the wife have a reason to get divorced and end up with a new Chad just 6 months later.
actually you often hear that the death of a child leads to divorce. i think its less the death of the child but more that it gives both parties a reason. no one is going to think poorly on a couple that divorced after their child died. usually its two unhappy going thru the motions and then life changes and one of them wakes up and the wife is like i need Chad or the father is like i need no nagging and peace.

My cousin is going through something similar possibly worse, His wife's 16 year old daughter (child was 2 when they met. baby daddy dies in a work accident) was murdered in their bedroom. Unable to afford the money to cut losses on the house. They owed 100k on what should have been 350k house so rather than walking away with nothing they've been living in the finished basement for 3 years waiting for the 3 year manditory stigmatised notification on the listing has passed.
Apparently she's just a shell of her former self. Time will tell if they stick together but my guess is once that house check shows up she'll be ready to move on and find herself and have fun again because he did too good of a job sticking with her.

this is relevant. my father and mother went thru the same thing. it was my sister who died at age 3 but it was before i was born as I was the youngest so i didn't go thru it. piecing stories together it sounds like my mom went bonkers for a few years, like total mental breakdown. the marriage was never the same and my dad was never the same. my mom was the better parent than my dad actually but alot of it was alcohol, which started after my sisters death. it was horrible for both parents but i'll never forget how my mom going nuts for a few years was totally normal but my dad drinking his sorrows away made him a total monster to the family.
[–]NeverRelapseItsATrap7 points8 points9 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
My condolences to the guy. A part that is irritating when reading through the comments is the amount of callous “oh wait till he gets a divorce” or “whatever it is just life” or “he got what he deserved.” Imagine being in this guy’s shoes. How would you feel if your kid just died? Have you gone through a major tragedy? Once you do, you are never the same! Never!! So before you give a callous remark, imagine if you are at the other end and receive the same callous treatment.
Whether his family was dysfunctional as a result of him is pure speculation. Even then unless you are some psych PhD, someone with Bipolar may have gotten from other factors. Who knows!
He manned up, don’t care about wife’s reaction. He didn’t shrivel into a ball. That’s part of what it means to be masculine.

Paradoxical as it may seem...
The husband/father engaging in the "be all and do all" (alone) is arguably a big PART of the problem in that scenario.*
It ENABLES and FACILITATES everyone else continuing to "lose their shit" (and to arguably "roll around in it").
A big part of "recovering" from "tragic" events, is for EVERYONE to be BUSY and DIRECTLY involved in those things that are NECESSARY for their own life/living -- his response is in many ways a DYSFUNCTIONAL as theirs.
* I'd go even further, and say that it's probably ALSO a big part of the CAUSE of the tragedy to begin with. The whole "my daughter is bipolar" is a medicalization of an inherently psycho-social-development problem (often including "abuse & neglect" in childhood): the daughter was a "fucked up mess"; and apparently so is/are all the rest of the family members -- and almost certainly not just as a result of the girl's suicide -- they were all "fucked up" long prior to that themselves (that entire family is, and likely always has been, VERY dysfunctional).
EDIT: And yes that's not "sympathetic" view... but it very much IS the cold, harsh truth.
[–]falselyaccused3220 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
No, it's not the truth. Bi-polar is a meme diagnosis and you're a low IQ retard with very little life experience, and that's an obvious fact.
The world is a shit place. Suicide happens in even the best of families.
Tl;dr: you're a dumbass

This is bullshit
states he notices her sitting in the closet
then says he had to 'cut her down'
apparently she hung herself with a magical, incredibly strong shoelace
Even without the inconsistency re sitting/hanging, there's simply no way a person could use a shoelace like this. Even a rawhide leather shoelace would snap the moment you put your weight on it
[–]Mefic_vest1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Lesson: It is the man who is expected to be the adult, who is tasked by societal expectations (“toxic masculinity”) to hold everything together. For if he fails, he is the failure. Everyone else? Blameless. Some because of their age and lack of life experience (the other children), which is understandable, but the rest?
How interesting. /s

Bah. This is only a big deal in the last 100 years. For the other 2 million years of humanity's existence, a huge majority of children died well before their parents-- Not that the parents lived long either. Often it was some stupid thing that got people killed. That or other murdering humans. Bad things WILL happen to people. This is just life, and the laws of physics that give us life also allow for, nay, DEMAND the taking of life. It bugs me when people are so emotionally delicate that they experience a tragedy and even after a normal grieving period is long past they cant see that they're wasting whats left of their own life. The man in this post is simply doing what everyone should do. Anyone in history that curled up into a ball crying for more than a week would fail to prepare for winter and die.

Agreed. A big part of this is the desire to DENY the reality of death, to deny that it is inevitable.
The man in this post is simply doing what everyone should do. Anyone in history that curled up into a ball crying for more than a week would fail to prepare for winter and die.
This part I disagree with -- the man is making a HUGE mistake in not forcing the rest of the family to ALSO "move on" and to continue to do what is necessary.
Further, I would say that the way he (and they, his family) HAVE each "reacted" -- is likely also what the ROOT CAUSE of the tragedy was in the first place -- he is NOT properly leading his family, he is NOT properly requiring them to participate in their own subsistence; and THAT is likely one of the foundational reasons that his daughter was "bipolar" [sic]...
The whole family IS (and despite the "facade" of the Christmas shopping etc -- was well prior to the present "tragedy") entirely DYSfunctional...
There is vastly MORE to this story than is present in that little paragraph.

Mixed feelings about this. There's nothing wrong with shouting 'life goes on!' to his wife and his other kids.
I understand that it's a difficult time for that man, but don't forget that this is on the edge of humble bragging. He's making himself the most important person alive in that household.
Don't get me wrong, again, I understand that it's difficult. But someone should tell him that he has all the right in the world to tell his wife and kids to stop bullshitting, because life goes on.
Don't make the death of someone else an excuse to become lazy.
[–]DWShimoda4 points5 points6 points 8 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
He's also covering/hiding all of the DYSFUNCTIONAL SHITFEST that has been occurring within his family up to this point.
The whole "Christmas shopping/everyone was in good mood" etc -- is a FICTIONAL (and highly superficial) construct -- it's the outward LIE that this family has engaged in for YEARS.
Note that the "daughter was diagnosed as bipolar" (as if that is the SOLE reason, and it's just something that "happened" i.e. immerito or ex nihilo) -- and then the attempt to shift blame ("but the doctors had decided against medication" i.e. it's all THEIR fault) -- is in and of itself enough to note that everything was NOT "idyllic" in this family prior to the daughter's suicide.
There is in fact a whole lot MORE to this story -- to this family's history -- than is being presented in this little paragraph.
(Cf M. Scott Peck's circa 1983 book "People of the Lie")

It's a created facade to show off that their family was great prior to the daughters suicide.
In fact, I rather question the veracity of the "events of the day" prior -- plausible? yes; the full truth? highly unlikely.
15 year old girls (youngest of three children, apparently all still in the household) do not generally become so "bipolar" -- and not only "suicidal" (as some attention-grabbing bit of performance art) but successfully & secretly COMMIT suicide (at/before Christmas!) right under everyone's noses...
...NOT without some pretty horrific SHIT having taken place previously in her life (and almost certainly within that HOUSE/FAMILY).
THE most likely root cause is that she was "abused" -- and in terms of the type of abuse, most probably sexual abuse -- but (critically) within a larger insecure/dysfunctional family structure; i.e. it was probably not just that Neighbor/Uncle Joe "fingered her pussy" when she was 5; much more likely is that she was abused (perennially & repeatedly) by one or more of the "core" family members (Mommy? Older Brother? Older Sister? Maybe both siblings, with "mom" being aware, and with {distant and semi-AWOL other than "provider"} Father being clueless).
That obviously "speculative" -- but it most certainly WOULD account for EVERYONE'S "reactions" to this -- shocking event -- IOW, the other family members are not only "distraught" they're probably going schizoid themselves with a combination of guilt, grief, AND relief (i.e. the "secret" is SAFE now) -- and of course the father remains "clueless" (at least as to the actual "event") -- he's also "covering" for the dysfunction of the overall family.
Pure speculation from the armchair neckbeard idiot.
You have a very low IQ.
Fucktard

Stories like this really piss me off, that little bitch had to be selfish and off herself in such a way that she basically ruined her entire families lives. Also if she was truly bipolar why the Fuck would you not have her on medicine???
Doctor decided against it. Not really sure what that means, though.

Ofc the wife reacts the worst of all. Always useless in any stressful situation.

PUAs say, NAWALT. But even if so this shit can happen. Another reason to be MGTOW.
[–]ContreversialViews220 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
being a father is like playing in the 'unfavourable' positions no one wamts to play in in P.E e.g. goalkeeper in soccer, Center in basketball, back row/libero in volleyball etc.
[–]Graypube880 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Guess what.. you got married and had kids, what else would you expect? MGTOW is the only route to peace of mind and serenity.

Now think about this. If this man was taught to be soy and cry and not keep his frame how much more worse shit could’ve happened.

Thank you for sharing, speaking of fathers, I don't necessarily recommend the film but there is a really powerful scene in "World's Greatest Dad" where the dad (played by Robin Williams) finds his son had accidentally killed himself with autoerotic ayxphyxiation (spell?). The son (Kyle) was a brat in the film but it was an extremely moving scene that showed how much a father can love a son however imperfect their relationship may be, to me anyway. He finds the son and bursts into tears, I dunno it really hit me in the feels when it came out some years ago.

Terrible. No parent should out-live their child. What a nightmare.

Says who? On what basis?
You've merely made a dogmatic assertion. One moreover that doesn't match with reality.

This has nothing to do with MGTOW.

Come on, nothing special here, he was forced by the situation to deal with it, every man would do the same. But will he have the balls to give his wife an ultimatum? Will he prepare for the worse when the divorce hits? Or will he continue to be a slave and throw away his future happiness when everyone around him will start to leech on his mental health. Pff, why only he needs to be strong.
I don't know why you get disliked but you're right. Why does the man only need to be strong. If the divorce happens, there might be a chance that he will be next to suicide. I know this sounds cold but it can happen any time. Also what if he found out that she was cheating because <enter reason>. Hooe it won't go like that for him.

How do you hang yourself sitting down?
Edit: I'm serious. The dad found her sitting down right? And I'm assuming with a shoelace around her neck attached to a bar in the closet? I just can't imagine a suicide in that position. She would have to resist the instinct to stand up.
Likely this. Some people really want to just die.

[–]tylerden2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Dude, your lack of empathy stems from your ignorance and understanding of suiside. You are quite sick to do go ahead and kill yourself. Its a state of mind most people cant imagine. Its kind of a zombie like state. They dont really think about it, they just go ahead with it. Nothing to do with selfishness, or teaching her family a lesson. I feel sorry for suiside victims. because they are a victim of a mental sickness. Respect is neither hear nor there.

All because a woman gave into this emotional “depression is cool” bullshit and tried to off herself with a shoelace? All for attention.
[–]Ssloan382 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Have you ever known or been friends with anyone who's bipolar? I honestly used to think that people who said they were bipolar were just angry out of control people but to be honest with you there is a serious problem a serious real problem with people who are bipolar. It is a real thing. There are people out there who claim they are bipolar and are just fucking assholes. But being bipolar does make you want to kill yourself sometimes. I am not bipolar but one of my close friends is
You don't kill yourself for attention you dumb fuck. You're confusing pseudo-suicide with actual suicide.
There's some people that like to put on a show, call everyone saying 'im going to kill myself' and make a huge advertisement about how they're going to kill themselves, for attention, yes.
If you hang yourself unnanounced in a closet you're not doing it for 'attention', or because 'depression is cool', but because you had a genuine desire to die for whatever reason.
Fuck mate, your entire response feels like it's written by some fat 14 year old kid that things it's cool and 'tough' to write edgy shit like this.

Yes Depression doesn't exist....people do all of this for attention/s

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Because she gets derailed in a way that makes her unable to come back to a normal life. Not caring about the children who are still alive. Burden everything on her husband. Typical. Therefore AWALT.

First of I didnt say nawalt. first rule of mgtow is ALWALT. Second rule of mgtow is AWALT, this reddit wouldnt servive if not looked through that lense.
Im reacting to a short dismissive, blanket statement which doesnt give women there due. She didnt break down, act like a child and go crazy in a similar situation. If all women are the same then this is part of there nature.
Which is a good quality in there nature wouldnt you agree? I felt like is had a negative tone to it, so I wanted to give a simular situation some objectivity and give women credit where it is due.
As with most people they will become a mess in a situation like this if they dont have to step up. For survival for yourself and those you love it is critical, so someone steps up.
In this situation the leader grieves in there own way, but it does take a back seat, acting and taking charge of a tragedy actually makes you feel better. The others just feel like vicims.
This story is tragic to say the least and pretty much played out like you would expect, however the wife and kids should have recieved trauma and psychological aid. From the sound of how bad they ended up. They would be able to return to a realitively normal lifestyle. The longer it is left the harder it is to remedy.
I also think the guy is heading for a crash and that post is the beginning of that.
Well played and goodluck to him.
Sounds like an adult. Adults take responsibility for their role. The problem with today's society is there are no adults. Both men and women are just children mentally. Women just exploit it because they are treated like queens by simps. A good woman stays loyal to her husband because that's her role. Same with the husband, it's mostly done for the children and future generations rather than their own personal happiness.
Agreed.
