1 and 1/2 years alone I am very addicted to being alone. People suck and cause problems :-)
[–]matthewfuture39 points40 points41 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
11 years celibate (except for my GF hand, lol) and proud of it. Have had chances with random women, but I enjoy doing my own thing, without any strings.
Long standing Jeep project in the garage? Nobody complains. Wanna research and buy that super $$$$ stereo? No prob. Drink a lil too much out with my friends and take an uber home? Who cares?
I don't even see friends very often. I enjoy my own company. I have my pets: Great Pyrenees big dog, cat, turtle, and ducks.
It's great. No regrets.

Lol, thanks for the interest. Well, I went to my closest Tractor Supply Company (great dude's place) for wild bird seed, and noticed they had all these duck chicks on sale since it was late in the season last year and they were 50% off. Well, they were so damn cute I couldn't resist so I bought four; all mixed breeds but it is hard to tell when the are all just fuzzballs.
Raised them in the spare guest room, one died unfortunately due to something, but now have the three different breeds in an outdoor pen: male American Peking (typical big white one with short legs), male Cayuga (almost black with beautiful shimmering colors in the sun and a graceful neck and demeanor), and finally my , sweet female Khaki Campbell, who within the last month or two has graced me with an egg almost everyday. They are delicious and high in omega-3s!
I know it may seem silly to some to develop a satisfactory relationship with animals, but don't we all with dogs and cats? Hell, Tommy the Turtle literally showed up at my doorstep last fall when I had my windows open and heard something rustling around. I love him too, though it's difficult to see his love, lol.
I guess my point being, find something you enjoy, whether it's animals, working on cars, upgrading your place, etc.
Sorry for the long post. Get whatever you want going, fellas!

Yes always better alone and it drive”them” crazy.

A lot of people, early on, haven't learned to enjoy solitude, not loneliness.
Being alone or lonely is just having data starvation. And one needs to get over that.
Despite the bad reputation, staring and watching paint dry is relaxing. Watching waves on the shore is great. Clouds floating by.
People need to disconnect and relax.

I love just waking up in the morning, and going outside to a sunny hot day and basking in the warm sun-light, standing still as a tree. Just quietly observing and taking in the nature around you, the sounds and everything, it is one of my favorite things to do.
[–]legacyweaver6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Sounds nice... Would require I wake up with more than exactly the amount of time needed to get ready and go to work sadly. Not happening anytime soon.
[–]ParalyticPoison4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, working a 9-5 sucks a lot. That's the nice thing about being a minimalist, really reduces the necessity to work more than the hours you feel are necessary to keep yourself supported.
[–]legacyweaver1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
At some point I'd like to get there, but not until I buy and pay off my tiny home on my lake so I can afford to live on a thousand a month or less. Until I'm established I'm afraid it's full-time for me. I COULD wake up early but my brain is wired to relax in the evening, and once I wake up if I tried to relax I'd just be watching the clock thinking 'yup, gotta work soon, better watch the clock so I'm not late'. Not very relaxing sadly...
[–]ParalyticPoison2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I forgot to mention that I don't do this in the morning technically, it's what I consider morning. I don't wake up at like 7 AM and do this, it's still too cold usually, I actually prefer around 12 or 1 PM, that's when the heat is more intense, but I wake up around those hours so it really feels nice when your body temp is still low from just sleeping.
[–]legacyweaver2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That does sound just about perfect. Back in Iraq around 5:45-6:30am the air had a velvety quality that caressed your skin with just enough warmth to invigorate you. I get it.
[–]ParalyticPoison2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's part of the reason I plan on moving out to a fairly dry and fairly warm/hot place at some point. I think Arizona might be a good choice, not a fan of being so close to Commiefornia though, hopefully I can find a similar climate place more Mid-west. The constant Wet-Heat and then Dreadfully cold climate where i'm currently at is not really my cup of tea, I especially have come to hate the snow.
I agree with Solaire from Dark Souls, Praise the Sun.

A lot of times, that desire for solitude increases with age.

4 years in, don’t see any future with anyone intimately or otherwise. Live in a house with my brother and a dog. Ultimate bachelor pad, no reason to add anything else
[–]ChilledEfilist14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Dogs are amazing. Sometimes I think we don't deserve them. They will follow you and be loyal to you even if you literally go homeless.
[–]darkrachet14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That aint really alone though

It’s away from women so I’d say it counts, plus 2 of them were just me
[–]specklemouse12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Lived with my father for the last 7 years of his life. It was fabulous. Now live alone with my cat for company. My fathers slippers still grace the floor where we ditched our footwear. I won't be removing them.
[–]FightClubHamster693 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Much respect to you. I used to have a cat, buried her in the back yard, it’s what I do with all my pets. I find it more respectful
[–]specklemouse2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, me too. The down/up-side to this is when I was having the septic tank redone a kitty skull surfaced in perfect condition. I still have it.

I have been living alone in my house since around 2010. So yeah, roughly 8 years of peace, quiet, and everything right where I left it.
I have no intention of going back.
[–]TheKnightRunner13 points14 points15 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'm taking "alone" in this sense to mean not in a relationship. I'm nearing 4 months of not pursing dating, and 2 and a half years being single. Every day that passes, I become less interested in ever being in a committed relationship again.
[–]LetsGoAllTheWhey8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I let six months go by since my last relationship, to take a break from dating. The six months has turned into five years and I couldn't be more content. Whenever I think about dating or relationships, drama, hurt feelings and compromise come to mind.
Sometimes I get lonely but it passes, and I keep myself occupied with my son, the gym and work, oh yeah, my dog too. Little fucker won't leave me alone. He follows me everywhere I go in the house.
[–]CpuDoc6713 points14 points15 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is the damn truth!! I live in a house by myself and I love it. It is addicting indeed. I love the peace!!!!
I fully understand how and why people go live in the mountains.

It's a double edge sword like everything in life.
You have more time to work on urself and reflect on ur plans, problems and thoughts, strong justice warrior and idealistic, on the other it can be devestating, because you tend to disregard other viewpoints and you are more prone to selfdoubt, autistic stuff, rolling ur eyes, depression and general anxiety disorder.
If you are alone for a long time, it's a character flaw, or a looks flaw or you are so far on the bells curve right that u need to take a lot of hits. It's way harder for the average pleb to even approach u and make any sort of meaningful connection if we even asume he/she has good intentions which in most cases I haven't found so far. Most of them were goldiggers, emo-sociopaths and drama queens.
[–]NeverNeverLandIsNow5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
So very true, I have been thinking I need to get out a little more so I don't forget how to interact with people, I mean I have to deal with them at work but outside of that I don't see people all that much and I am loving it, perhaps a bit too much.
[–]QuadraticLove6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Need to be careful with that, though. That helps destroy the sense of community. We are social creatures, and isolation is damaging to your health.
[–]Highly_Polarized7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Learn how to be alone so you can be, but don't learn to be alone, or you'll end up in misery. ~my big brain qoutes
[–]Joroda4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's me 100%
[–]redandnarrow2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Not worded very well. Seems like they mean single. Isolation is death. Human flourishing requires community, it should be our default state whilst it taking intentional energy for solitude which is also important for reflection/meditation/prayer/recharging.
[–]TheRealEyesWideOpen2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
6 years alone.
Home paid.
Late 30s.
Never going back to the plantation.
I have girlfriends; I see someone about once a week for the relationship experience. Then she leaves.
Will always live alone. No marriage, no cohabitation, no procreation.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Especially if before you got your solitude you were nagged relentlessly by some ex cunt, you cherish it even more!

Except it's just not true

It seems everyone else on this discussion agrees with OP (solitude cab be addicting) but your take is different. Not that you should follow the crowd but, Why?

What should I do when I get really lonely? I like being alone most of the time , doing what I want. Not having to cater to someone elses needs. My music, my movies. No one there to complain about me eating like a pig. But somtimes I get this creeping feeling of loneliness, it builds and builds until I feel like screaming or crying for someone to help me, to save me from this self-built prison of loneliness. How do I revel in my solitude instead of being a little bitch and whine about feeling lonely?
[–]Belly__flop1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I’ve been living alone for about 20 years, with the exception of the annual visit to see parents. Also go see younger brother avery 3-5 years or so. I do have to deal with coworkers, but I don’t hang out with them out of work, also no friends and no pets. At 40 years old now, I could never go back to actually living with anyone, pets included. Casual acquaintances once in awhile to meet up and go fly fishing are cool, but I usually just go alone.

7 years in my own home and 5 years in a rental with a housemate before that. 12 years of no bullshit in total and mostly by myself even when I live with someone. Fuckin' eh I have no desire to live with anyone ever again.

Living with internet and tv isnt being alone, it's being parasitic
Try to live without Entertainment made by other people and let's see how addicting it is lol
Or stop being a bitch and do something for your social anxiety
