Had mine at 23, I'm 31 now. Waking up at 3AM to clean up dirty diapers and vomit are not my thing, I'd rather watch my bank account get bigger.

I'm 29 and have no kids. I had my vasectomy done a few months ago. The procedure was covered under my insurance with a $60 copay

Doc used a local anesthetic, and made single small (1/8in) incision in the middle of the scrotum. He cut a big chunk out of each tube and burned both ends to seal them off. I had no pain during the procedure and afterwards there was very little, just a slight ache that came and went for a couple of weeks. I used ice for the first three days and didn't need any painkillers. I wore a jock for the first week and then whenever doing any strenous activity during the next month.

The only complication I experienced was that I did have a bit of bruising and a granuloma, that's a ball of sperm that leaks out into your sack, and in my case it felt like a third testicle. The doctor said it was fine and not to be concerned unless the swelling was the size of an orange or larger. After a couple of days it had been reabsorbed and now all is just fine.

I will ad that I was told 12 weeks before checking for sterility as there is a small chance that the tubes will rejoin and that testing earlier can show a negative result and then you could regain fertility.

I just got the all clear from my doctor two weeks ago and now I can actually enjoy sex. Before the snip I had too much anxiety about knocking someone up that it killed my sex drive. A vasectomy doesn't protect against STDs so you'll still want to wrap up with escorts and ONS, but if you've got a chick you can trust (as much as you can trust a woman) then going raw is pretty fucking awesome.

I'm sure you"ll hear from the brigade coming in here talking about RISUG and Vasalgel, but those are pipedreams and wont be available for years if ever. So just go for the vasectomy, its available today.

Given your age you might have trouble finding a doctor to do the procedure. There is a childfree subreddit and they have a list of CF friendly doctors so you might want to give that a look so you can doctor shop more effectively.

tl;dr: Got a vasectomy at a young age. My happiness is paramount. I don't want to sacrifice it for others. I can always adopt. I had some complications but it really wasn't that bad unless you're a pussy.

I got a vasectomy at 26.

I think it's normal to have a little bit of apprehension about anything with such permanency, even I had some second thoughts, but after dating a couple single mothers, and seeing first hand the massive decades long shit storm that results from knocking a girl up, those second thoughts disappear pretty quick.

I'll take my own happiness over sacrificing myself for an unappreciative mother and child any day of the week.

If, for some reason, I decide I need to raise kids in the future, I'll adopt some less fortunate child.

About the procedure itself, I had some complications in the form of a hematoma, that meant my recovery time was longer than usual. It was a little painful, and my sack was large and discoloured for about 6 weeks. Sex and physical activity was painful, and I had to wear a jock strap for support for about 3 weeks, because my sack was too heavy on it's own. Doc said it happens in something like 7% of guys.

All in all it really wasn't that bad, I didn't miss any work, and while you're not allowed to go the gym for about 2 weeks (no heavy lifting), I had no problems after that period. When I asked the doc if lifting would exacerbate my hematoma, and he said "nope, you can't make it any worse, let pain be your guide". As long as I wore a support, I had no problem squatting heavy.

Vasectomy was the best decision I've ever made. I'm physically incapable of accidentally knocking anyone up and it's the best goddamn feeling in the entire world. Literally zero time spent worrying about accidentally getting someone pregnant for the last ten years. DO IT!

I got the snip after the second kid at about age 36. I am in Canada, so I had to make an appointment about 2 months ahead, and to my surprise, I got a call about a cancellation the next day to work and could I come in that afternoon. (I work across from the hospital). Talk about not being mentally ready!! After a quick call home, I took the afternoon off, went in and got the snip. Totally painless. I took the train home that evening, and went out with a friend and hit golf balls. The only discomfort was a little pulling on the stitches (like you got an off the mark hit to the nads). Since then, I have never regretted it, never felt guilty, never felt any loss or desire for more kids. So if you head is in the right place, and you are sure you are at that point in your life, go for it. However, at 21.... are you sure? it sounds like you are questioning it

I had a vasectomy when I was 22 currently 29. It's unnerving at first because it's [basically] a permanent decision. However, a few times of having sex w/o fear of pregnancy mad sex a lot more enjoyable for me. Best decision of my life.

As said, one simply compares the perceived costs to the benefits. The perceptions of others or the broader impact of society needn't be part of this, but it could. Let's leave them out momentarily, and so what we have is a procedure that one either finds to be symbolically unwanted or not, one is either concerned about the potential side-effects or not, one is either concerned about future indecision or not. Then one puts that up against concern for getting a woman pregnant. Something that's only an issue should one's value for sex over override the possible drawbacks.

But, now let's include the two issues left out. Firstly, concerning the perception of others, one must ask if one would be negatively affected by those whose perception of it are negative, forcing one to, at best, avoid such rhetoric and surround oneself regulatory with those who encourage vasectomies, at worst, make one argue with those with negative remarks to say about it, even to the point of making things up and resorting to verbosity and declarations rather than reason.

Secondly, the social impact. It seems that one would logically let it be irrelevant in one's decision, being one's own life is almost everything to one, and one's action can only effect the broader society so much, and that's assuming one even cares whether they have a significant impact or not. But, it shouldn't be taken for granted that one doesn't care about one's effect on society, nor that one doesn't have an inflated view of how much he, or any individual, can affect society.

For example, one may say his only issue is not being personally taken advantage of by women, but if one is involved in social activism of any kind, even including simply voting or donating money, it shows that one has a broader view. So one may ask if he actually passionately cares that men in general shouldn't be taken advantage of by women in this context, as well as himself - as opposed to simply favoring the opinion over the contrary. If he does have such passion then he may look long term.

One man's decisions are relatively insignificant to society, giving him one logical reason to ignore that factor, among other. But, there is still some effect. Let's compare the issue of vasectomies to abortion. Forced abortions existed before women were given the legal right to decide them for themselves, and in fact as the legal right was being pushed, the idea that women should neither be forced to have them, as well as forced not to was in mind. Popular culture in tv and movies is enough to establish this. A man in a sitcom or movie even suggesting a woman get an abortion against her wishes is almost never portrayed as anything other than a demon. A women all but physically forcing a man to get a vasectomy is considering quality comedy.

So the issue of vasectomies doesn't have the some protection through media rhetoric as the issues with abortion. As vasectomies increases, one can only expect that forceful vasectomies would increase.
