And the fact is, there's a wide variety of reasons that people go MGTOW, there's not just one reason. It's like why people try to become wealthy or minimalist of whatever. There's all sorts of reason and backgrounds of people coming to MGTOW.

Men choose MGTOW via cost/benefit analysis. They analyse the current climate and how much risk is involved with interacting with women. Through social media inflating women's egos and a feminism-biased education system indoctrinating women to believing to 'not settle for less than you deserve','know your worth and don't settle for less' and all the other cliches that arise from gender studies; it has disproportionately skewed that cost/benefit ratio. The benefit for the average man has gone done as his options are few and far between with a pool of delusional women who 'won't settle'.

What also takes away from the benefit is that most women have no interest in long-term relationships until they are well passed their prime. Unfortunately women don't believe this because they think the marginal increase in sexual market value that their masters degree brings outweighs the loss in sexual market value from them aging 10 years.

The cost, or risk, has exploded in the last few years of simply interacting with women. You can be fired for looking at a women. You can go to prison for having sex with a woman if she regrets it. If your girlfriend attacks you and the police come, you're going to jail for domestic violence by default. If you live with a woman, in most states you're common-law and she is entitled to half your net worth. If a hook up leads to conception, a woman can choose to have the baby and take a substantial portion of your paycheck for 18 years and if you cannot pay you will go to jail. Complimenting a woman can be career ending.

So with all the aforementioned risk, and little to no benefit, a man's natural decision-making would lead him to simply not engage. No resentment. No hard feelings. A simple qualitative calculation leads to a courteous 'Thanks, but no thanks.'

The realization that the benefits of serious courting are diminished, on both sides nevertheless. Individuals can be more self sufficient because of technology.

You don't need a housewife when you have a dishwasher, laundry machine, and automatic house cleaning. Meals can be made easier with crockpots and pressure cookers. Sex is accessed easier with tinder and similar apps along with no societal taboo against premarital sex.

Plus the risk of divorce, especially with high rates in the US. I'd wager that most people here come from disunified families.

-Decline of morals

-Rise of misandry towards men.

-Welfare State because it promotes laziness for people on it. Free money handed to you.

-Double standards in gender roles, especially in dating and marriage.

-Self-entitlement from women due to a coddled upbringing and brainwashed indoctrination.

-Desacralization of marriage and virginity, now its weaponized.

-Biased family courts. Women are perceived as innocent victims, men are perceived as guilty abusers.

I might have missed some but these are probably the main causes of MGTOW growth.

More recently, its been 'negative publicity.' There's a lot of people who have mgtow thoughts without putting a label on it. I was anti marriage before I even heard of mgtow. They find a group of men who are exactly like them and they come hang out. But in general many men looking for sucessful life strategies will find themselves here. I personally like to read stores of men much older than me who have been through everything life has thrown at them. It's as if i've lived a hundred lives after I have read these stories and learned the lessons.

I never knew the term MGTOW until someone brought up the subject of what the hell is wrong with women on a board I was on at the time. One of the other members linked to this page.

In the last month I'd say I run across two of three threads on other boards that have pointed out MGTOW. It's expanding because there are a lot of guys out there living the lifestyle but never knew there was a name for it.

He was complaining about the risk:reward of marriage for men, and concluded it was bullshit, and ranted for a bit. I had never discussed MGTOW with him at all, he arrived at MGTOW because it was self-evident.

Multiple variables, also I do not necessarily believe that MGTOW is growing in the sense that men are being converted I believe that many men are already latent MGTOW or MGTOW without the semantics used by this reddit. The find this reddit and join or they are simply already going their own way. But one variable seems clear is the massive more of information we can have with the internet, meaning that more men can look into the shit that happens to man everyday. And the rise of a culture in which men (especially white men) no longer are valued but seen as toxic and something that needs to be fixed and controlled. More and more men tired of talking to incoherent inlogical people, instead draw their own conclusion and go their own way.

I think the movement is seen as the forbidden fruit. A lot of people on reddit and other feminazi websites say we're some horrible evil movement that wants to force women back in the kitchen and legalize wife beating. When people see what we're actually about, most still don't give us a chance to respond to their ridiculous strawman arguments about their movement. We’ve reached a point where (roughly) 80% of men have absolutely zero chance at getting a girl that they would ideally want.

Due to social media and fucking apps, women have an extremely inflated sense of self worth. For them, it’s either Chad, Chad “lite,” or bust.

I mean, in the “old days” (I’d say 2012 and before), a regular guy had a decent chance to obtain a cute girl. He didn’t have to be a Chad, or even near a Chad, but he still had a good chance at getting a girl that was at least a little above his SMV.

This would make a guy like that EXTREMELY happy. At worst, she would be equal SMV to him. Nowadays, the same guy has to settle for a girl that’s AT LEAST 2 full points below his SMV. It can be even as much as 3, or even 4 points. That is fucking insanity.

In today’s world, that guy can’t even get a “hello” from the top 65-70% of women....maybe even more. The market is just completely fucked.

I just think there has been a mass awakening among regular guys. I mean, how many times can you reach out to girls, only to hear crickets? And in the off chance that they do respond, you get an entitled/bitchy attitude from some dumb bitch that’s a “4” or “5,” that thinks she’s a “8” or “9.”

I think most guys have just had it.

Men realizing that there are options besides a miserable life with a wife and kids. That there are men out there that CAN work on their car on a Saturday afternoon, men that CAN watch football on Sunday, men that CAN buy a new video game system without consulting anyone except his own budget, men that CAN blast rock music though a huge speaker system without being told to keep it down, men out there that CAN relax after work instead of being ordered to do chores, and men that CAN control what happens to their money and how it is spent.

Once men realize this, and they get a taste of that freedom, they can't get enough. Do I sometimes wish I had a sane life partner that I could move into a retirement home with? Sure. I also wish I had a gold toilet to shit in, but it likely won't happen (and it's not necessary at all)

I just discovered MGTOW a few days ago. It got put onto my radar when Reddit shut down r/incels. I have no sympathy for the incel cause, but I thought it was pretty shitty that they got singled out when there are plenty of other vitriol filled subs that are way worse. I saw posts saying r/MGTOW was next and my curiosity was piqued because I had never heard of it. I guess all publicity is good publicity. Now that I'm aware of MGTOW, I'm realizing that a lot of my thoughts on gender dynamics and the futility of relationships are shared by other men. I've also gained some new perspectives. I still don't agree with everything that's said here, but I don't think I have to to go my own way.

TLDR: Feminism's bullying of male-centric subs is bringing in subscribers.

I definitely think a big part of it is the generations of young boys and men who grew up with this shit are now reaching marriage age, and because they have not been given good role models and seen healthy relationships growing up with their cock carousel riding single mothers, they don't see the point.

Guys older than 30 are the next wave of statistics, they're going through the horrors of divorce, and their younger brothers/sons are paying close attention. I think Gen X was the last generation that still tried to make it work - with the expected failure. The new generations are refusing to even try - and why should they?

Here in California, dating market is absolute hell. Unless you are in top 5% of men, you will be left fighting for nasty, overweight, unattractive (both physically and mentally) women. All my friends in relationships here are with these cows. Any above average woman will cheat within a week. Many young men here are MGTOW even without knowing what it is. They avoid dating for simple reason that it's absolute cancer here.
