Currently, there really isn't any footage that shows us what's happening behind the counter or when the video is no longer on the guy. Without knowing the environment in which this McDonalds is situated, letting the girls get up, and even leave the restaurant, may have put the guy in immediate danger. Either the girls retaliate with brutal force, in a kitchen filled with dangerous instruments, or they go get their boyfriends who will get high and mighty over the "defenseless" girls... Long before the police ever show up.
Now to the point: Aside from the fact that had the genders been reversed, the girl would be hailed a hero [which is a double standard], I think this story highlights another double standard.
Women can feel that they can instigate violence in the public [and private] without any repercussion, and act knowing that society [men, women, police, etc...] will immediately defend them from such repercussion either before, during, and/or after, even in cases where repercussion is expected in situations not involving a female perpetrator and male victim. In this case, the repercussion was self-defense [until some evidence verifies he hit them while they were doing nothing], and the law punishes the apparent victim [the man] of a provoked attack.
In both cases, feminists failing to condone these double standards further verifies that they seek equality only for women, and when it suits them.
