What good is anger?

It's beautiful if directed, destructive if undirected.

Find somewhere to direct your anger. Don't just get mad, do something about it.

I don't spend all my time on the internet here. So I'll go off and play a bit of Diablo 3, take photos or work on whatever crochet project I have going.

Find a hobby that's not the Internet. Anytime you get pissed, go do that hobby. I recommend Ocarina of Time

My methods of anger management vary based on the situation. If there's a way to do something effective about the situation that has made me angry - even if that effect will be small, as with writing to businesses and politicians - I focus on that.

When there isn't, if it's a situation I think is important, I write about it, bookmark it, or otherwise work on being part of the network that helps keep others informed (like blogging on the topic of malicious prosecution and restraining order abuse, and what I've learned from the ordeals of friends and family.)

When it looks like there's not a goddamned thing I can do, I defrag with music. Sometimes while or after doing that, I'm able to figure out something constructive (like creating parodies with the sex reversed to illustrate the absurdity of some feminist info-graphics and fliers.) Sometimes not. Either way, by using an outside tool to control my mental state, I haven't let the uphill battle become so discouraging that I can't take action when it is possible.

It's also good to show successes when they happen, whether big or small. Even the oddest little thing (like getting an unexpected reply back to a message sent to a faceless corporation) can be encouraging, especially in the environment MRAs face today.

The other thing to note is that it is good to be an activist, to struggle to improve circumstances and attitudes that are unjust, but it's not good to let that take over your life. If you don't balance it out with other interests, you'll burn out. Just like with anything else in life, you do have to pace yourself, and your pace won't necessarily be the same as everyone else's.

I have 2 accounts: my main account, and this one. I use my main account for news/etc., and this account for MRA-stuff and expressing controversial opinions. I check in on this stuff once a day, and try to limit it to that so I don't get sucked into some bullshit.

It helps A LOT.
