You're a man? YTA sweety.

That subreddit in a nutshell

[–]nkw1004 19 points20 points21 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Another thing I've learned too is that people, men especially, get absolutely shit on for saying they have morals like not drinking or saving themselves until marriage. Why is it that guys get shit for having too much sex and get shit for not having sex. Makes absolutely no sense. So what if he wants to wait until marriage and also wants to date someone with similar views on life. Holy fuck people let the man choose who he wants to be with

[–]Wee_Albet 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I don't drink and the responses I get about this would make people think I'd just gone out and kicked a puppy. Then they get defensive as if I'm judging them and trying to take their drink away. I don't care what people put in their bodies and once upon a time I loved a good drink. But alcohol's effect on me changed and I decided it wasn't worth me becoming a suicidal mess whenever I drank. People seem more happy to let me be a risk to myself than they are to just let me stick to my non-alcoholic drink.

Oh, and let's not even mention the people who spike your drink with alcohol...

"Men shouldn't drink because then they rape women" "Hey why the fuck don't you drink" -every feminist ever

[–]SchalaZeal01 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Why is it that guys get shit for having too much sex and get shit for not having sex.

The first guy having 'too much sex' gets told to stop by "stop having fun now" people, or worse. And governments are not rushing to make a male pill workable and affordable probably because they think it might help that kind of guy.

The second guy gets opposed by different people. People who oppose men having standards. Because having standards means standing up for yourself, having some self-esteem. And discriminating in who he dates or has sex with. That makes him harder to control and manipulate. Can't have that, so shame him for being too discriminatory in his personal practices.

It's all hamstering really. Notice how the women's comment section is full of making excuses for her. Oh, you don't really care about the money, you really care about this.

AITI is full of double standards. Females get passes on many things men do not.

That’s also because the majority of posters are female

[–]bhullj11 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Go to r/askwomen and you’ll find plenty of examples of women gleefully rejecting a guy because he is or is not a virgin.

Do women even realize their own ridiculous double standards?

[–]Ody_ssey 12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It's surprising how quickly they understand when the gender is reversed.

[–]Depressedkid1998 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Actually ridiculous lol

[–]bhullj11 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The reason why they’re calling him the asshole is because most of the posters are immature 18-30 year old girls who are no longer virgins themselves and they’re picturing him as one of those guys who shames women for not being virgins, so they instantly see him as the enemy. They’re stupid and they don’t have the ability to see that he’s just looking for someone with compatible career goals and personal beliefs. He’s not saying that not being a virgin is morally wrong, he’s just saying that he’d rather have someone who is at the same level as him sexually.

[–]LateralThinker13 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Seriously? THESE are your examples?

This is the loser guy

he himself couldn't give less of a damn about if he was ever going to even get a paycheck. He is almost in his thirties and neither has a college degree, nor has he ever had a full time job. He says that the reason for that is because his dog has separation anxiety, but then he adds that he would also never be able to work for 8 hours every day. I know that he spends a lot of his time smoking weed, although he did cut it back a little bit in the past month.

And this is the Female "loser"

Student at a good law school. Did my undergrad at a top university. And before anyone asks, I am not rich, my parents grew up in poverty. I consider my to self to be sucessful, at least for my age, and generally have strong moral values (don't drink, party, am a virgin, etc) and am looking for a partner who shares similar values. All my friends know this. So a friend of mine M27, tried to set me up with a mechanic he knows, despite her being not a virgin and obviously being less successful (nothing against tradespeople, I just want someone with similar levels of success)

So in the first example, a loser slacker pothead with no fulltime job at age 30 is not considered a catch by the woman. No debate there.

But in the second example, the guy rejects an employed, skilled potential partner because she's a tradesman instead of the college-educated ivy-league climber that he is... not because she's a failure/unsuccessful, but because she's not successful enough.

Yeah, the guy is a bit TA (classist, but can't really blame him TOO much), whereas the woman is dodging a worthless stoner whose dog has separation anxiety?!?!. This isn't a double standard. The two "losers" are NOT even remotely comparable.

EDIT to be clear: To be a double standard, they'd have to react differently to similar cases. These aren't similar cases you moron.

I stand with you on this one, even through the eventual downvotes.

Hey, Knights have to stand together against the occasional onslaught of the unwashed hordes, eh?

[–]roger_roger_frogger -1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Not to mention the tone of the posts are massively different. There is a massive difference between being career driven and wanting someone with similar career goals and shitting on the "less successful" hard workers of other jobs.

[–]emjaytheomachy 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In other words, it's okay to have standards about what constitutes successful, but only if they are YOUR standards. Got it.

[–]MissingTheMarc 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think that the requirement for a "virgin" girl probably had more to do with it, but yeah AITA had crazy double standards about everything.
