Anyone else disturbed by the brazen indifference toward soaring male suicide rates in female dominated mental healthcare fields?

Yeah it’s very clear “we” want women in historically male dominated fields that are white collar but when the script is flipped to industrial jobs, blue collar, teachers, healthcare positions , etc… there is never any conversation.

I think there needs to be a lot more appreciation for the men that make the world run every day behind closed doors. I sure appreciate my Wi-Fi, power, AC/heat, and cleanliness of my city. A strike of those jobs even for a few days would cripple the functionality of our lives and help put emphasis on just how important those 90%+ male dominated fields are…maybe women will want to take part, but I doubt it lol

Reeves is too much of a coward to criticize feminists … I despise this about him.

I saw an instagram post of Rob Henderson who suggested that there is “already a thumb on the scale” for male applicants at university, but this is not really the case. Yes they will allow some more male students in, but these are for irrelevant subjects, and they get no where near the help that their female counterparts parts get. On top of that the curriculum is riddled with anti-male rhetoric. A friend of mine who is a 3rd year exercise science student, recently told me they are doing a unit in “ misogyny” LOL what a joke.

And they wonder why boys are leaving school? It has nothing to do with feminism? It has nothing to do with women ?

It wouldn't be so high if they weren't. I mean it's no accident that atleast nearly 3/4 of therapists are women and about 3/4 of suicides are men. Not trying to be edgy but it's exactly how the joker said it in the dark knight. "Nobody panics when things go "according to plan." Even if the plan is horrifying!

I mean to a degree it makes sense, if you have a female therapist, more times than not, she will have a harder time sympathizing and helping her male patient.

So more women joining, the more men aren’t helped adequately, the more they’re gonna kill themselves.

I personally can attest to this, I’ve been to therapy for a long time, and have been with many therapist, 99% of the time men were better with understanding and sympathetic to me. One of my female therapist, when talking about being taken advantage of by my female partner literally said, “Maybe you weren’t giving the right “Signals””. Most of my female therapist were like this, maybe not as bad, but certainly not helpful.

Yes. Abuse of men and abuse of women are both wrong. Seeing the trauma my fiancee has taken? At the hands of woman? Horrifying.

I'm beginning to think that not only men are considered disposable, but in a high-population environment, fewer men is an evolutionarily desired outcome and society naturally gravitates toward it.

In small societies and tribes, which were the norm for the first 290,000 of our 300,000 year history, there are only a few men of fertile age to go around, as there are women, and while some men may not be "ideal," they are needed prevent inbreeding and prevent population collapse.

But in a society numbering millions of individuals, like even a large city, this is not really a problem, at least at the beginning, so some men dying without reproducing the society may secretly consider advantageous, especially when these men are considered inferior, and their absence allows the superior men to have more progeny and take over any women these men might have succeeded in mating with, and over time improve the genetic health of the population.

That's just a theory, I'm not a scientist and maybe it's BS, but I can't help but feel sometimes that this is a possibility. I hope it's not true, but sometimes I can't help but wonder 🤷🏻.

i wonder if there is a way to incentivise men to go into those fields? i know that politicians don't give a fuck about men but then what options do we have? make funds and investments to do something like "women in steam" but for men in psychology and teaching? how would that even work?

Male suicidality is an epidemic. But you won't catch any healthcare professionals admitting it. I am very very fortunate to be working in the mental health sphere with a wonderful man who really helps men to connect with their inner self. While we are both technically equals, I put him above me in the hierarchy, because he deserves to be there. This also helps when men try to access our support, they see a man at the helm, and it helps give them the reinforcement to come in and seek help.

I am strongly for Programms inviting man into women dominated fields. We need more male rolemodels for young boys.

The male/female ratio in psychology related field is 69% (not joking). I really think the high male Suizide rates are a huge problem but I’m not sure the women are at fault.

And the comparison to engineering is kinda off, because those Programms are not that many and they are only from big companies and mainly for desk jobs. So they can put more work into that

In the West, suicide in males under 30 years old has increased 40% since 2010 and male suicide in the general population now equals female deaths from breast cancer. Yet ALL the mainstream advocacy is for females.

I share your concern about the gender imbalance in this fields.

I think though it’s a bit too much of a general sweeping statement to say all those professionals don’t care about issues of male suicide.

Many will have sons and fathers and husbands and care deeply about issues such as male suicide.

I think the question is perhaps rather how much of their practice and techniques are more effective for women than men because they approach things from a female perspective and what impact does that have on outcomes.

I have a male friend who is a cognitive behavioural therapist who has experienced a lot of issues with misandry in many female dominated workplaces.

It might also be some approaches like CBT have better outcomes for men then things like talking therapy.

There is also the problem of ‘male flight’ from fields once they become too female dominated. But there are many male politicians and men in positions of power to try and do something about this and they don’t.

So the blame here must also lie a lot with other men, both those that don’t care about addressing gender imbalance and those who actively avoid going into roles that are viewed as “feminine” now.

Provisional psychologist - Psychology student here: We have always been taught that the male suicide rate is higher than females; especially middle-aged or older men. One primary explanation is that, women tend to find it easier than men to seek help / talk to someone else/ talk about their struggles and feelings (and the contributing factors for this could be men were taught at a young age to ignore their inner world, to not feel and express their emotions otherwise they would be considered "weak"; men may face or feel more social stigma when reaching out for mental health help; and possibly, when men share their mental health challenges with their male peers, the peers may not be equipped to handle emotions and may respond in unhelpful ways). Another reason identified in research is that men tend to choose s*icide methods that are more fatal than women.

In treatment, yes, some men may find it easier to open up with someone of the same gender and maybe age, but it doesn't mean female clinicians care less or understand less about their male clients.

Why do you think men do not become therapists? Cause I would say it's because men are taught not to talk about their feelings and be "mechanical" instead and I think that sucks.
