For those saying, "This isn't a men's rights issue", I understand where you're coming from and you have a good point.

Let me add a little context to what OP is saying:

Before its release, the company hyped up this game with claims like, "The most historically accurate World War 2 game ever made".
Then the game was released, with a one-armed female soldier as its figurehead.
Fans were disappointed by this departure from the promised historical accuracy.
Of course, the customers for games like this are majority male.
One view of this historical revision is that it is diminishing the importance of men's role in winning WW2 for the Allies, and elevating women's role far beyond what's deserved. Another example of women appropriating, or at least claiming credit for, men's accomplishments?
The exec in charge of game design announced that he was responsible for shoehorning women soldiers into key roles in the game, when in reality there were no women in such roles during WW2.
He explained that having a young daughter made him realise that "Female representation is very important", that any fans disappointed with his approach were simply "uneducated and they should "not buy the game".
It turns out a whole lot of (male) fans took his advice and didn't buy the game. Sales have been terrible.
The exec has just resigned from the company.
As with the 2016 Ghostbusters movie, this incident should serve to teach companies an important lesson: don't shit on men when you're scripting and/or creating your product; and don't label all criticism of your decision to shit on men as "misogyny" and claim it's all coming from uneducated/sexist/loser guys. That is, don't do those things if you want any men to buy your product.
