wrong sub

[–]trivialretort6 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

How?

[–]lonewolfhistory 3 points4 points5 points 7 years ago (37 children) | Copy Link

How?

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS -4 points-3 points-2 points 7 years ago (36 children) | Copy Link

Toxic Femininity is a women's issue, and this sub is about men's issues.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

So then feminists won't talk about toxic masculinity, only toxic femininity.

Right?

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Eh, feminists have a history of edging into the mens issues lane.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

So they can lecture men on how men may behave but we can't say anything about women?

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS -3 points-2 points-1 points 7 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

Again, you demonstrate your basic lack of understanding of Toxic Masculinity. Surprise Surprise.

You do know that fatherlessness is believed to be the number one cause of toxic masculinity, right? I doubt you do.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

Again, you demonstrate your basic lack of understanding of Toxic Masculinity. Surprise Surprise.

No actually the people in this sub understand what it means. You're the one who is confused.

But anyway you said what you meant: feminists can tell men what to do or not do. MRAs can't say anything to women.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (10 children) | Copy Link

No, the people of this sub do not know what it means.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Yeah they do. You just won't accept feminists at their word.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I generally prefer the actual meaning of the word to how a few people use it...

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Feminists made up the term. How they use it is what it means.

It's like Nazis with the word Aryan. They made it up (or repurposed technically) so you can't really complain they're using it wrong.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

If you look at history (and reality) you would see that it was the Men's Movement that concieved of the term, and feminism has merely adopted it. How it was defined as is what it means.

If Jews had invented the word Aryan, your idea would be more accurate. And if the word Aryan had a specific meaning, and some Nazis used it wrong, but the majority actually use it right.

Words have meanings.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Nope. You keep pedaling that.

But just like patriarchy has its original definition and the ones feminists came up with the term toxic masculinity doesn't mean what you think it does.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You deepthroated the blue pill it seems.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'm sure you've invented your own definition for all those expressions.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

As did you.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I just kinda see how people are using it and to from there.

You do something different .

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I stick to what I say

[–]trivialretort1 points 7 years ago* [recovered] (19 children) | Copy Link

Read the article. This is very much related to mens issues.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS -2 points-1 points0 points 7 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

I just did, and it turns out to be a misleading title, none of the behaviours discussed fall under the label of toxic femininity.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (17 children) | Copy Link

But you don't believe in toxic femininity. So it's not surprising that you'd reject it all.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link

Except, you know, I do,,,

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link

Not really. You only acknowledge the kind where women are the victims of men. More of that internalized misogyny bullshit. You reject that it can ever be harmful to men.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (14 children) | Copy Link

Since when? Considering my prime example was unrealistic beauty standards (which are caused by society, reinforced by other women, and internalised by the woman, IE women are the victims of society and other women....)

Internalised misogyny is also a problem, as is internalised misandry, but we are talking about toxic gender expectations, not internalised sexism, that is irrelevant to the current discussion.

Toxic gender roles necessarily harm the gender those expectations are harmed on. Toxic Masculinity can only be harmful to women passively, and toxic femininity can harm men passively.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

You realize you're just inventing your own definitions.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No, not really.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics2 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'm pretty sure no feminist would agree with you that toxic masculinity can't be directly harmful to women.

They say it's directly harmful to women all the time.

Go to askfeminists and see.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Meh, r/AskFeminists has a certain brand of feminism that is very similar to the modern r/Feminism...

Now, do you remember why r/feminisms was created? There is an interesting story behind it...

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

So get any feminist forum to back your claim that TM can only ever hurt women passively. Never actively.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Sure, when I have time.

Now, do you remember why r/feminisms was created? There is an interesting story behind it...

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It'll be noted that specs can't think of a single feminist forum that backs him.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

It'll also be noted that I never said I tried and failed. I do not have time to go looking for a good one.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics3 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

And you never will manage to find the time.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

When have I ever let you down? Every time you say that, I prove you wrong.

Now, do you remember why r/feminisms was created? There is an interesting story behind it...

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics3 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

When have I ever let you down? Every time you say that, I prove you wrong.

Well that simply isn't true.

Remember it needs to be some relatively large group of feminists agreeing en masse that toxic masculinity can never actively harm women.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS0 points 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Let it be noted that you could not find one example.

[–]5th_Law_of_Robotics1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Keep searching for that mythical true feminist who agrees with you on everything.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS1 point 7 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

You keep searching too,.

[–]alcoholandxanax 2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

All you ever do is whine about muh toxic masculinity all the time. Why do you even bother coming around here when you'd be so much more at home on r/feminism?

I correct people who are wrong. That does not make me a feminist,

Toxic Masculinity is an important MRA concept. As an advocate for mens rights, it is my business to know about it.

[–]auMatech 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Which version, the one from the mythopoetic men's movement, or the feminist definition of "toxic masculinity"?

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

same thing actually. Feminists adopted it from the MMM, and it is shameful that the r/MensRights community has been ignoring it.

When r/MensLib is doing men's issues better than r/MensRights, there is reason to be concerned.

[–]auMatech 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Are they though? Last i visited the sub (which was quite some time ago) threads were getting locked because it discussed non-approved content. Plus, the majority of what was currently being discussed was pinning the blame of society firmly back on men. Just didn't seem like a healthy sub to be discussing men's issues in.

The problem i see with the whole "Toxic Masculinity" is that it's being stretched and manipulated to suit the ends of whoever is currently writing a hit piece

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS -1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

In terms of talking about Toxic Masculinity, it is doing far better. Still a dumpster fire tho TBH.

Toxic masculinity really does need a better definition.

[–]genkernels 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Toxic Masculinity is an important MRA concept.

These are important MRA concepts, do you see toxic masculinity in there? If you can, under what heading or headings does it fall?

Ultimately "toxic masculinity" as a whole is not worth addressing. It is a vague and loaded term intended to evoke derision. And if I took the majority of usages of the term "toxic masculinity" and gave them to you, you'd probably say they were all wrong, perhaps even misandric. Yet you advocate beginning to use this old, terrible term. One that the movement is not currently using, and would be highly confusing for the moment to use. Its a bad idea, and the only reason you seem to like using it is because it is also feminist term, albeit one not used the way you want to use it.

As an advocate for mens rights, it is my business to know about it.

You're kinda in an in-between situation though. A month ago you identified as feminist. Last week you tried to defend Duluth and VAWA. While you do advocate for men's rights, you also advocate for the things that actively harm and deride men.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You are right... But tell me, who is the sole editor for RBOMI? Tell me that?

I still think VAWA is valid (to an extent, definitely needs to be redone tho)

Duluth has a disclaimer that says it is gender neutral, but it has sub-text.

[–]genkernels 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Holy smiles-back goldfish, it's you. Why Dakru gave the keys to you I can't imagine.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh yes. I am also the sole manager of the r/mensrights wiki...

As I have said before, I am involved in several MRA projects.

Also, menarehuman.com.

And a MRA youtube channel.

[–]genkernels 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Those honestly aren't nearly as big of a deal as the RBOMI.

[–]PM_ME_UR_PC_SPECS 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, I guess. Maybe the MR wiki (which now links directly to r/rbomi instead of a local copy.
