I'm looking for advice in advance in case my boyfriend's ex girlfriend tries to file for child support.

Here's what's going on: He was in the army and living on base in Tennessee until February 2011. He started dating his ex while there in March 2010 and they were together until September 2011. He got out of the army in February 2011 and moved back to California and is using GI Bill to go to school. So from February 2011 to September 2011 they were long distance. The last time he saw her was when he visited her around August 7-10 2011.

After he broke up with her she went crazy and constantly tried to manipulate him into getting back with her. I don't know her, so I don't know what she's really like, but she seems like a very manipulative and crazy person.

We met and started dating December 2011. Somehow through some extensive internet stalking she must have found out he was dating someone new. In early January she texted him after months of them not talking and asked if he had a new girlfriend. He said yes and nothing more. Then, a couple weeks later she texted him claiming to be pregnant. She also asked him whether he thought she should have an abortion or adoption. This seemed like an odd question to ask at 5 months into a pregnancy since I don't think you can get an abortion that late except when the mother's life is at risk. Nonethless, he didn't say much to her except "do what you think is best." We didn't talk about it much, but both figured that she was making it up and it was another desperate attempt to get him back.

He hasn't heard from her since. Out of curiosity last night though (mostly attempting to prove myself right in thinking that she was making the whole thing up) I found her Facebook and looked at her pictures and statuses (which are all public for some reason). Based on this, it would appear that she had a baby on May 12th. This is a little late for conception around the 8th-10th of August, but it's possible she went a week or so past her due date. It feels unreal to me, but there is a pretty good chance my boyfriend is the biological father of this baby.

Like I said, she has not contacted him at all since January, so he's not even aware yet that this baby exists. I really want to just ignore the fact that this child exists and move on with my life, but I'm worried that in the future she may try to get child support from him. I'm assuming she can do this even if he has no relationship with the child? Obviously the first thing to do if she does is get a paternity test and make sure he is the biological father.

Here are the questions I have:

  • What are the requirements for voluntary termination of parental rights? Is it likely that he would be able to get that since he is not on the birth certificate or anything?

  • Based on how she has acted in the past, I wouldn't be surprised if she got pregnant on purpose in an attempt to try to get him to move back to Tennessee and/or marry her. If it could be somehow proved that she lied about being on the pill (ie if she didn't even have a prescription for it back in August 2011), would this do any good in getting a voluntary termination of parental rights and/or not having to pay her child support?

  • Can she get child support from his GI Bill money?

  • How will her and the child being in another state complicate him trying to challenge the child support order?

  • If she files for child support years from now can they make him pay back payments for all the years prior to that?

I'm hoping that she just won't file for child support and we won't have to deal with this, but I've heard too many awful stories of exes taking half of a man's paycheck, so I want to be prepared. We've talked about getting married in a year or two and I don't want this woman taking our money for the next 18 years. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

TL;DR Just found out boyfriend's ex girlfriend in another state got pregnant the last time he saw her before they broke up. Want to be prepared to fight child support in case she files for it.

Edit: Fixed a couple typos.
