One side claims the film celebrates these attacks, the other side claims the film condemns these attacks. Apparently it's a matter of interpretation. In the end it's art and someone is calling for a ban of it because some ficitional characters in a film do evil things. That's just wrong.

I can read right through that and see it us exactly the same as,

Hanfy claims that the film, which is currently showing in Egyptian cinemas, incites female victims of sexual harassment to commit violent acts against young men, specifically targeting their "sensitive places" with sharp tools, which could potentially lead to sexual impotence. “The film sends the message to women who are subject to sexual harassment that it is okay to resort to vigilante justice against the harasser," Hanfy stated in his complaint.

I don't know about any of the rest of you, but the way I was taught self-defense was that if I'm in danger, there are no "rules" about how I defend myself (I'm male, by the way, just to contextualize this). There's no honor or restraint in a knock-down-drag-out fight, and that includes if I'm threatened by a woman. Eyes, ears, throat, sternum, crotch, shins. There's no reason not to use every weapon and weak spot you can when you're being threatened.

Throw in the fact that men are (let's face it) more physically imposing and more able to use violence than women most of the time (exceptions include the various women I train with who could break me in half), and so women and smaller men are likely to be more paranoid about the possibility of being attacked. Lord knows that if a woman who was five inches taller than me and beefier touched me in an offensive way, my reaction would be to run and (failing that) to cause her enough injury that I can get away.

A comment on the article...

Instead of worrying that some jerk is going to get hurt for saying nasty things to a lady, maybe you should be concerned over the fact that these "men" think it's OK to act this way.

I think someone feeling sexually harassed is way lower on the painscale than getting your genitals mutilated...

Mr Mahmoud Hanfy Mahmoud has clearly nothing to do in his life...The head of the complaints department at the Association for Human rights is complaining about a film that adresses and condemn sexual harassment, a clear human right violation...because yes, it is a human right of live free of any sexual harassment...

So... What this person is trying to say is that movies that promote mutilation and violence as a response to sexual harassment is a good thing...

While I believe we should combat sexual harassment, it's movies like this that actually makes things worse.
