There are two possible situations here.

1) the two items are identical and women aren't I telling enough to buy the cheaper item.

2) the two items are different and women want the better, more expensive item at the lesser items cost

The pink tax is like a Ferrari cost. You don't want the generic stuff, you want flamboyant stuff.

It's not a red tax the Ferrari is more expensive.

Yes.. but it's not a pink tax, it's a stupid tax. If a consumer (of any sex) wants to purchase a product for an additional cost, simply because it's a different color, then those consumers have that choice.

If women refused to purchase the product simply because it's a different color, the companies would stop making them. However, very rarely is it the exact same product with a different color...

Most of the time, it is completely different from the men's product. Take razors. Men's come in a dark blue theme, very simple, just get the job done. Women's razors have to come in pink or purple, are shaped differently, and can have different things in them that make it scented. Women will pay more for it. Simple as that. If they bought men's stuff they would likely spend less, but the quality would also likely go down.

Same thing with haircuts. It makes me so mad when people (especially my mom) use this argument trying to say that women are disadvantaged or some shit. I always tell them that IF YOU WON'T PAY 80 FUCKING DOLLARS FOR A HAIRCUT THEY WON'T CHARGE YOU THAT. Businesses will always charge as much as they can to get the highest profits, and for some reason these people cannot understand that.

No. There are no compulsory purchases, so there CAN'T be a pink tax. If a woman would prefer men's (cheaper) razors, THEY CAN BUY THEM. They don't, because women's razors aren't the same as men's.

Either that, or they're stupid. I buy based on functionality, not color/branding, because my IQ is higher than room temperature. Feminists... not so sure about that.

A) It's not a tax , why?? because

a compulsory contribution to state revenue, levied by the government on workers' income and business profits, or added to the cost of some goods, services, and transactions.

B) Most if not all the product are different and even if they are not, you don't have to buy them.

Think about this, "If they sold car insurance more expensive for women and cheaper for men but allowed the people to choose which one to buy and it would cover the same stuff WOULD ANYONE buy the women's insurance".

I have never seen any example of an actual pink tax. Women’s products sometimes cost more because they are not the same product and have higher production costs. Compare the colors, grips and shapes of men’s disposable razors vs women’s for example. The women’s have more material, more complex shapes, more coloring, etc., so they cost more. Any woman who does not value these features is free to buy the product labeled as men’s. I know some women who do just that.

As far as an actual tax, some states exempt hygiene products from sales tax and some do not, but they do so equally for both men’s and women’s products, so again it’s inaccurate to call it a pink tax. The tax or tax exemption applies equally to both sexes.

No it doesn't it's just women taking the price of an item marketed to women and comparing it's price to the generic brand and calling the difference a tax, while simply ignoring that they could simply buy the generic brand at any time!

I can do the same thing with generic brand deodorant and Axe body spray and call it a blue tax, voilà!

As oppose to the real blue tax where men are 15% heavier on average than women and require 15% more food to stay alive.

The question to ask is whether the price differential is based on the gender of the buyer, or the product being sold.

If women's shampoo costs more than men's shampoo, then that is not a pink tax, because women can choose to buy the men's shampoo and pay the same price as men. If women prefer the women's shampoo, then that indicates that it is superior in some way that justifies the extra cost.

If the charge for the same good or service is based on gender, then that is a different situation. This is very rare, but it can occur. For example, women with short hair being charged more for a haircut than a man with the same length hair.

Men and women pay the same price for the same products.

If a man purchases pink razors he pays the same price for the pink razors a woman does.

My mom didn't get a job until I was in my teens. I have 2 older sisters. My father paid the same price for tampons and pads as any woman would.

Pink tax is just another way play the victim
