There are many studies trying to estimate false accusations with estimates all over the place. One of the most widely cited is the Kanin study which estimates about 40%. Not exactly extremely rare.

Even feminists acknowledge a huge percent of accusations don’t have the supporting evidence to go anywhere and are dismissed.

It's not that male SA victims are suspected of lying. Society just doesn't care about them.

In contrast, society DOES care about female SA victims, but because they are known to lie about it much more often they are more likely to be suspected of lying.

Rape is treated as one of the most serious crimes, comparable to murder in terms of moral weight and consequences. The crucial difference is that murder almost always leaves objective evidence, while rape very often does not. This has been recognised for centuries. Most rape allegations ultimately reduce to competing testimony.

In many cases there is no reliable way to establish what happened. There is usually no independent witness. Physical evidence cannot establish consent or lack of consent. Injuries can occur during consensual sex, and their absence proves nothing. Prior relationships, intoxication, and sexual practices such as BDSM make interpretation even harder. Same sex encounters can complicate matters further, which is something police themselves acknowledge when dealing with lesbian cases.

At that point, the situation is epistemically similar to a private agreement with no recording. One person says it happened one way, the other says it did not. The system is no longer discovering facts. It is deciding which account to treat as more credible under uncertainty.

That matters because the accusation itself already carries consequences similar to punishment. Loss of employment, reputational destruction, legal records, restrictions on movement, and psychological harm often occur before any verdict. When evidentiary limits are this severe, outcomes are shaped more by assumptions and defaults than by proof.

This is where the claim that false allegations are extremely rare becomes misleading. It relies on narrow definitions that exclude most cases where the truth cannot be established either way. If falsity requires proof of malicious intent, then almost all untrue allegations will be classified as something else by definition. That does not mean they were true. It means they were unprovable.

None of this denies that sexual assault happens or that it causes serious harm. It recognises a structural problem. Some crimes are extraordinarily difficult to adjudicate reliably. When that is the case, mistakes are not rare edge cases. They are inevitable.

This also directly affects male victims. Men reporting sexual assault are often not taken seriously, and in mixed sex cases police frequently default to assuming the man is the perpetrator. That discourages male victims from reporting and increases the risk that innocent men are treated as guilty by default. In same sex cases, including lesbian relationships, police themselves report difficulty navigating assumptions, which further shows how much the system relies on narratives rather than evidence.

Ignoring these realities does not protect victims. It simply shifts the cost of uncertainty onto whichever party the system is socially primed to doubt or punish. A justice system that takes sexual violence seriously must also take uncertainty seriously, because fairness under uncertainty is the real issue being avoided in this debate.

The more people like you try to downplay false accusations the more it will happen and the more it will hurt the real victims. 20-30 years ago most people didn’t even talked about false accusations yet now it is talked about everywhere and casts a shade on every rape accusations. This is what people like you did. If you actually cared about assault and rape victims you would have fought tooth and nail against women that uses false accusations as a weapon.

I really have no patience for people who pretend not to understand that women tell destructive lies at least often as men use violence and for the same reason. The low rate of actual convictions doesn't change that and trying to conflate them is dishonest.

I believe false accusations are more common than most people think. Here's why I think that.

Camera systems I have put in place have proven three rape allegations to be completely false. Although all three women made the accusations, camera footage showed them from the moment they arrived to the moment these accusers left and the camera footage showed they had never been touched. Yet none of the three women has ever apologized for trying to destroy an innocent man's life. One, in fact, has successfully put two other men in prison for the same claim, and I personally wouldn't be surprised if those were similarly fake claims as well.

In addition, a friend of mine was sent to prison for a false accusation his angry wife made after a nasty fight. She even got her daughter to back her up as a witness. I originally believed him to be guilty myself and had disowned him as a friend until, after he had been serving his prison sentence for many, many months, his wife came to my brother and I to ask our advice about what we thought would happen if she admitted she lied? And what would happen to her daughter for lying too?

We told her women usually get a slap on the wrist and little more. But she was afraid her daughter would wind up in juvenile hall, so she didn't come forward. He is completely innocent but has never the less now spent his entire sentence in prison, is now a convicted sex offender, must register as one wherever he lives, and can't get a decent job with a thing like that on his record. He's innocent but his life is ruined after serving years in prison for something he never did, all because his wife got too mad during a fight and let her temper run away with her.

So, with three men who would have gone to prison over false accusations if not for my camera systems being in place (and think about how many falsely accused men weren't lucky enough to have camera recordings to prove their innocence), and another friend who spent years in prison over a false accusation, I'd say it is more common than many believe.

I do believe the VAST MAJORITY of rape accusations are absolutely REAL, but that doesn't mean there aren't a whole plethora of false accusations too. And for other types of abuse in general, even higher numbers.

Almost every time I've seen a man accuse a woman of physical abuse, she invariably claims she was just defending herself against HIS abuse which she'll claim came first. Sometimes that may truly be the case, but it's claimed even when clearly a lie. They know men will be doubted and women will be believed most of the time. Even if he's a completely bloody, beaten, and badly bruised mess and there isn't so much as a single scratch on her, she'll invariably make the claim that HE was abusing HER! It's become the STANDARD response of most women to reports against them of abuse. I know two men who are regularly abused by their wives but will never report it because they think there's no point.

And keep in mind that 3/4 of men who've been abused themselves by women report that their abuser constantly threatened to accuse HIM if he said a word about what she was doing to him to anyone else. These victims report that this threat is what kept them from reporting the abuse for so long. Threatening false accusations against the male victim is the NUMBER ONE METHOD female abusers use to prevent being reported by their male victims to the police! I repeat, THREATENING TO MAKE FALSE ACCUSATIONS is the NUMBER ONE threat used by women abusers to silence victims! NUMBER ONE! That's in a whopping 75% of cases! THREE OUT OF FOUR TIMES! It is THAT commonly threatened! And too many abused men think similarly that there's no point, or THEY will be accused, and so will NEVER report it.

So, from MY experience, I don't believe false accusations by women against men are as "rare" as some people believe them to be.
