To be entirely fair, the British Royal Family is pretty much a publically-funded soap opera these days.

Royal Watchers and Princess Culture... all predominantly female.

So of course the "audience" wants a female baby. They want someone they can easily identify with and proxy themselves into. They want someone that can be their escapist character.

I hate to use this example but just imagine if a comic book company were going to launch a completely new character and we didn't know anything about the character until the first issue. Would comic book fans, who are principally male, be hoping for a male character or a female character?

The way some feminists have acted re. the royal baby's gender is awful, but not all the reactions have come from feminists. A lot of this 'I wish is was a girl' crap is coming simply from female Royal-Watchers who wanted a way to vicariously indulge their Princess Fantasies.

If you want some evidence of this dynamic, look at Princess Diana's wedding. Almost every woman who watched it was, on some level, vicariously living out a fantasy of being the super-special center-of-attention Princess.

I'm not trying to excuse the way feminists have reacted, but not all these "I wanted a girl" reactions came from feminists. Plenty were just Royal-Watchers who wanted some wish fulfillment, and you can say this attitude is horribly objectifying (because it treats real people as if they exist only to provide psychological satisfaction to viewers) but I wouldn't call it misandric per se.

I'm liberal and not a U.S. voter but a little part of me would like to see the first female president of the U.S. be a conservative like Kelly Ayotte who then goes on to govern like Maggie Thatcher.

Watching feminists' heads explode as they're forced to criticise the first female U.S. president would be a guilty pleasure.

I'm not a huge fan of how that blog is set up, but...is that a picture of the Queen (do we Americans capitalize this word?) changing a tire of what looks like a military vehicle? Cuz that's pretty bad ass. And the blog just shows a random picture while talking about the queen, but doesn't give it a title or reference it in any manner.

It should be also noted that the british monarchy rules were changed so that girls if eldest born will get the crown and not be bypassed anymore. In this modern world boys are vastly needed and feminists can bitch and moan all they like but until women pull their equal weight men will always be most important to the world's many economies.
