No doubt, my wife died in 2002. (Drunk driver hit her) my daughter was 7. I ended up raising her as a single dad with no help. My late wife and I had no really family to speak of.

The reactions I got from women were hilarious. They were convinced my house was always trashed, it was always immaculate. I must have tons of laundry to do. Nope all finished and put up. We had to be eating nothing but fast food or premade meals, umm nope I worked restaurants during school, I cook exceptionally well.

And yes I learned how to braid her hair, I helped her with home work ( she is a high a average student and about to finish vet school for reference) and I ended up raising 3 relative kids 2 nieces and a nephew due to my cousin's not being able to take care of them. All of them have either graduated college or working on degrees.

During this time I took care of my house, any repairs, yard work etc, my cars, oil changes and most maintenance, and earned 2 masters degrees and other certifications.

Questions I've gotten. You must have had a nanny, nope no nanny. You must have had a house keeper! Umm nope all me again. While I did give my daughter chores such as picking up her room and bathroom and helping with nightly dishes, it was all me.

I did have a college girl as a babysitter that during the week watched my daughter until I got home it was less than 2 to maybe 3 hours a day and a neighbors wife as a back up. Everything else was all me.

Men are just as capable and in some cases more than capable to be single parents. To this day I just shake my head at disbelief when I hear single mothers bitch and moan about how hard it is. How much work it is.

And before anyone asks, no I didn't date, I didn't reenter the dating scene until my daughter hit 13 and even then, no one was invited to my house or to meet her, so no no gf's helped. The first gf that met my daughter was after her 17th bday.

Many times, when I said I was a single dad, some women corrected me saying “you are a divorced dad, not single dad”. Fuck them.

Single fathers have a set of responsibilities and they .... quietly get on with it. Same as married or de facto dads. Not screaming for attention is a pretty standard male way of doing things.

Being a solo parent is not more unifying than gender. Single dads are far more likely to have a plan and a means based budget just because they are men.

Additionally, I’m not sure any nation could claim there are as many single fathers as single mothers in their population.

Statistically I don't know if this is true and recommend people actually look at multiple sources. But I agree with the sentiment that single parents in general should get equal support and representation in media. Single fathers should be normalized and celebrated as much as women.

Being men anything is under represented. Students, men in education as teachers, even public toilets for men.

I think that is incorrect because women usually get custody of the children.

So it's basically impossible for there to be the same amount of single father's as single moms.

I’m all for parental equality, but, here is an inconvenient fact - about 80% of all divorcing fathers do not attempt to seek out shared custody.

We have plenty of self-work to do on our end too.
