Let's add a little spice to this story, and say that the man was black, and the women white.

And let's now say, that the cop is twice as likely to "check that the woman is OK", because not only is the person in the car with her a male, who is bigger and stronger than her, but he is also black. And black men rape more than white men.

Is everyone happy now?

Hello TwoX, I recently had a run in with my local police department, and wanted to share (run in makes it sound bad but it really wasn't, as the title says). Especially with all the bad press out there on police recently, I thought a positive story would be good to share. Please forgive formatting as I'm on mobile.

Last week, my best friend and I went to see Fantastic Four at our local theatre. We were the only ones there and we enjoyed having the theatre to ourselves because he complained and made jokes the entire time (he's a comic book nerd). After the movie, it was probably 11:30 pm, and neither of us really wanted to go home yet because A) we were enjoying talking about the movie and just shooting the breeze in general, and B) both of our home lives are not the greatest. His parents constantly rib on him, and my mom only ever complains about my father, but that's another story. Anyway, usually when we don't want to go home we drive around, but I've been saving money for a trip and didn't want to waste the gas driving around for an hour or so. We live in a smallish town too so most things were starting to close and again, didn't want to spend anymore money. So, I drove us down to an old train station turned museum in our area that overlooks the Hudson River. There were some other cars in the parking lot but no one around except for two teenagers we saw walking in the direction of a playground. We sit there for maybe 15 minutes, watching trains go by, enjoying the night and each other's company when a police car rolls into the parking lot. It's got it's little side mirror light searching the parking lot and it stops right on my car.

I'm like, "Oh they're going to think we're having sex or doing drugs or something" because my windows were fogged up and this area is known to have junkies hang around it. Sure enough he pulls over to us and his lights go on. No biggie, we're not doing anything wrong, there shouldn't be a problem. So we both take out our IDs and roll the window down.

The officer comes over and informs us that we are trespassing. Wut.jpeg

Apparently there's a sign posted and people aren't supposed to be here after dark.

We explain that we honestly didn't know, hand him our IDs and answer his politely and honestly. He asks me to step out of the vehicle.

I'm thinking, oh crap, my parents are going to have to come bail me out, I'm going to be handcuffed, oh god what am I gunna do! Basically freaking the friggity-frack out.

He takes me around the back of my car and looks me dead in the face and says, "The reason I asked you to step out is because I wanted to make sure you were here of your own volition. That he's not assaulting you and didn't force you down here to hurt you. I don't want to leave you here with him if something is happening." This guy. This guy right here. Bless him.

Obviously I told him I was there of my own free will, my friend would never do that, we've been friends for years I trust him and all that. He let me get back in the car, gave us back our IDs, took my plate number and let us go with a warning not to be there after dark again.

At the time I didn't know where that could have come from, but looking back, it makes sense. It was almost midnight, in a deserted parking lot by the river. My best friend is 6'4, I'm 5'1 and he has easily a 100 pounds on me. If he had wanted to he could have easily taken advantage of me. Which, again, he would never. But it struck me as very forward thinking on the police officer's part to take me aside and ask me that.

TL;DR: A cop pulled me aside and asked me if I was being assaulted and made sure I was okay even though I wasn't being assaulted.
