I don't know if it's true or not, but I heard that it's illegal to place mail in a USPS mailbox without postage. I'd check on the legality before worrying about the morality.

People get unsolicited mail in the mail boxes all the time, so I don't see a problem with this.

Sounds like a waste of time.

And if you are not paying for each of those copies then it's technically illegal because you are copying the movie without permission.

There's a lot of pessimism here but hey it can't hurt can it.

If someone is willing to pay for it and understand that the level of effect is probably a magnitude less than you'd expect but I'd open it up to more than just feminists and target more general public such as young families more acutely.

But personally I'm certainly much more likely to watch a free dvd over most junk mail

It's virtually impossible to sway feminists. You would have more of an impact (and be less likely to go to jail for tampering with mail) if you just leave DVDs laying around in random coffee shops and such. Especially if you label the DVDs with various popular movie titles.
