I stopped buying new Marvel comics a couple of years ago out of frustration with the constant crossovers, re-numberings, reboots, etc. I occasionally get the urge to see what's happened in the Marvel Universe since I left, but whenever I do, I always come across something like this that immediately kills any interest that I may have had in picking up any new issues. Marvel's political agenda has pretty much ensured that this lifelong reader will spend his money elsewhere.

They used to have M from Generation X, a girl who in addition to being strong, able to fly, extremely durable, and other things, was a super-genius.

I'm a big Marvel fan. I definitely don't love everything they've done but I think they're a good brand who do their part to help make the world a better place.

IMO they did an awesome job with Agent Carter (the TV show). They realistically portray the discrimination of the day, but Peggy doesn't lecture anyone or deliver diatribes. She gets on with her job in an admirably professional and generally kickarse manner.

Anita Sarkeesian has built an entire career around the principle that the behaviour and thoughts of people in the real world are influenced by what they read in comics, see in movies, or play in games.

If this Marvel comic bothers you, I can only assume that you believe in the same principle as Sarkeesian does, just not in the same specific details as she does.

I disagree with Sarkeesian, for many reasons.

Similarly, Marvel Comics has built a successful business empire largely around following trends that its readers are interested in.

Dr Strange and the Silver Surfer were both big hits with all those dudes from the 70s 'head shops' that used to get high and read comics.

Marvel's storylines follow the fashions of their audience, by and large, although now of course they have to also tow a line acceptable to Hollywood as that is where they are making their biggest money now.
