About 5-10% of rape accusations are false. Women have a much higher chance of being raped than a man has a chance of being falsely accused.

How would you know? Unless you were present during the time that a rape is reported to have taken place, and witnessed everything / heard everything/ experienced the emotions of both accused and accuser, you cannot possibly make a statement such as ‘only .... of rapes are false’. NO study, NO statistics have ever, nor will ever, accurately determine how many reports of rape are false. The issue is that they exist and that the immense damage and trauma caused to the accused and their families is downplayed and the victims often denied justice largely because of ignorant, ill-informed opinions such as ‘they are rare so don’t matter’. They also cause immense damage to genuine victims of rape not least by casting doubt and stealing resources. All crimes matter and all victims deserve justice - if you have genuine empathy for victims, I would recommend reading up on the impact false allegations have on innocent people, if you simply have an agenda and don’t care if people suffer, please take your ignorance elsewhere.

Because since the variance is so high, you have to choose some set. The 2-12 number is the one that occurs far more often than any other...

And in choosing your set you're going to cite the 2-3% studies as being in agreement with the 10-12% studies? There is a massive gap in methodology between the 2-3%ers and the 10-12%ers. Eventually you're going to have to pick a standard and say "only 2-3% are proven" or "we know at least ~11% didn't happen" and that the numbers go up from there.

And even then you can't say that those are representative of rape allegations, because that is based on police reports, and unfortunately right now a lot of rape allegations simply don't go there -- to say nothing of sexual assault/harassment. Unfortunately the best that can be done with regard to rape statistics right now is to take slices and say "well it is at least this much of a problem, and no more than this much of a problem". Which right now, also unfortunately, bounds the problem between something as wide as 11-94%. Now we can also get a feeling that it is likely not over 50%, but as convincing at that may seem it really is just our best educated guess.

So to just cite 2-10% or some variation and say "this is what the statistics say" as if it is settled seems silly to me. Strangely it hasn't even been settled that the false accusation rate is over 10%. So I don't see how what you are saying addresses Dogrose22's point, particularly when you don't seem to have chosen a set of statistics to believe. Is it 2% or 6 times that?
