When feminists talk about a patriarchy, they mean a political patriarchy, they don’t mean a society where women often adopt a their husband’s name. In a political/power of rule sense a patriarchy is:

“A system of society or government in which men hold the power and women are largely excluded from it.” many would also add that men use their power of rule to benefit men.

This is simply not the system we live in. Women are not excluded. They can and do run for public office. Women have equal voting rights, in fact there are more women voters. In the last presidential primary, women overall felt a male candidate would represent them better than the female candidates. Feminism is a very influential lobby. We don’t pass laws advantaging men, we pass laws advantaging women.

We simply do not live in a patriarchy.

More women vote than men.

Those women choose to vote for men.

Also, it is not the case that men in positions of power leverage that power to the benefit of other men like women in those positions do for women.

Patriarchy is just a feminist's projection of what she would do in that position, which isn't an accurate reflection of reality.

Only the deluded and feminists actually think it's a real thing.

You assert that it's a real thing, yet you want proof of it not being real?

That's not how it works. The burden of proof is on YOU to prove it's real, not on anyone else to disprove it.

You are intellectually dishonest.

You will never be able to prove "patriarchy" exists because you can't prove a negative.

The reason why this characterization of the patriarchy is wrong is because it assumes that these men in power don't listen to women at all.Which is just patently false.Even going back to the 1800's feminist were able to get the married women's property act passed. Then there is also the fact that Caroline Norton is responsible for the creation of the tender years doctrine which was a legal principle for a long time.The Duluth model was also created by a feminist named Ellen pence in the 1980's.

Mary p koss had played a major role in making rape seem like a gendered issue.Here is an article about her.There are large feminist organizations like Now who oppose shared parenting.There are also many other influential feminist organization like Un women.President Obama repeats feminist claims like the wage gap, and created the White house Council on women and girls. Biden has the gender policy council which on paper sounds like it's about equality, but is actually focused pretty much entirely on Women and girls.Biden clearly focuses on women's issues.

Then there is also the fact that there are multiple national offices for women's health and none for men because of the women's health movement.Then there is also the national association of women's lawyers who campaigned for no-fault divorce.Then there is the fact that Roe v Wade was favored by a panel of male Supreme Court justices because a woman filed a lawsuit.Then on top of that women are the majority of voters

So women clearly have a massive influence on how society is run.saying that men make all the rules because they are the ones in power, is like saying breadwinner husbands make all the purchasing decisions because they are the ones making the money.This sounds plausible on paper, but is actually an inaccurate statement when you dig a little bit deeper.

Males are more dominant in sport, there for patriarchy..?

Define male define woman Cause if you can't... then how can you have a male dominated world.

if gender is a construct and not real anyone can be a woman or a man there everyone is a victim and perp of patriarchy ,l eading to a patriarchy not exsiting cause cause it's not one side dominant or harrasing.....

You may find that feminists will shift the goalposts on you if you use your first argument debunking Patriarchy, and switch to a different metric by which to measure it. (I use capitalization of Patriarchy to define it as distinct from "a patriarchy" which is a male-led society).

For example:

"Patriarchy exists. Smash the Patriarchy!" (doesn't define Patriarchy)

"What's Patriarchy?"

"It's the ingrained habits of tired old worn out gender roles, perpetuated mostly by men, which oppresses women"

"Okay, so why did bell hooks (feminist author widely admired in feminist circles) describe that Patriarchy was taught by mother to daughter and was passed down the female line??"

"Patriarchy is old white men!" (just shifted the goalposts)

"Which old white men?"

"Patriarchy is society" (shifted them again)

"So Patriarchy is mostly women, since women are 51% of society?"

"You just don't understand because you're a man"

*gathers the hive of women to downvote you and ban you*

...

The thing here is that Patriarchy is NOT "a patriarchy". The two thing are completely unrelated, except that they both have something to do with men.

"Patriarchy" is a boogieman, designed to have all undesirable behaviours and effects ascribed to men and leave women as helpless victims in need of more money and support (from government).

Like others have said, it doesn't exist.

while one could claim that the hard power of patriarchy has been abolished in US (though it kinda hasn’t if women are not allowed abortions), there can still remain soft power and this one is harder to root out because status quo comes off as the right option but it can be a discriminatory status quo because status quo was set during a time of hard power patriarchy.

Like just because slavery was abolished, doesn’t mean white supremacy is gone. maybe hard power of white supremacy is gone. but soft power like racism, symbolic violence (search it up) can still prevail.

Now some counties have not abolished hard power patriarchy even like Middle East. So patriarchy exists in the world. Patriarchal structures exists like Abrahamic religions are all patriarchal and marriage is a historically patriarchal institution.

So what I think you struggle with is the terminology of what is going on. Wage gap is misunderstood in mainstream media even if it’s a real thing describing a phenomenon just not what mainstream or your assumption presents.

Same with patriarchy. Patriarchy exists but not in the way that maybe a Webster definition would dictate.

Look at the intersectionality wheel. See how man is closer to centre than woman while transgender is further than woman. Patriarchy is describing uniquely that man-woman part of the wheel (it doesn’t even consider gender identity spectrum). So do note for yourself that these are simplistic models so that sociologists could work with concepts.

Well, to begin with, patriarchy is not simply male dominance, but dominance by fathers: old males. Men can still suffer systemic discrimination under patriarchy: young men, unfree men, foreign men… In fact, more men are dominated under patriarchy than dominators.

At every level, however, women OF THAT LEVEL are dominated by all the levels above them (both sexes) and that level’s older men.

So you can very much be a member of a patriarchy and dominated by a woman. You’re just not likely to be dominated by a woman of your own status level.

Also, there is no “patriarchy theory”, as far as I know.
