The admittedly surprised researchers came up with a theory for their findings. They posited that the women sent more sexist jokes because they saw harassing each other as harmless fun and harassing men as a form of revenge.

Hey retards, that's exactly why men sexually harass women as well. There is no evil patriarchy full of toxic masculinity.

EDIT: ok I finally read the paper. I think I get it now. Figure 3. pretty much summarizes the main effect. First off, this is sexual harassment between partners. I'm not sure how relevant this is. Anyways in figure 3. the men always receive more sexual harassment than women and give less of it than the women. They were able to observe a small effect due to the nature of the game (sexual vs. nonsexual). It's smaller than the effect of the gender of the "harasser." If you put the fighters in the game in sexy bathing suits, slightly more female partners get "harassed." But not enough to overcome the fact that most of the people receiving "harassment" were men.

They supposedly controlled for a lot of things, including psychological trait "aggression." However the sample size is very small (211 students at a Belgian university.). I'm not sure how applicable this is. Another weird thing is that the jokes they used were translated from English and didn't make sense in French. Did they all speak English? I didn't understand this part.

There were only playing sexualised females! Great study. And the way they make excuses for women. SMH

Men like to banter in games. We insult one another in games. We make fun of each other. It sometimes goes out of hand, but those quips make the game more fun. Some of the most vulgar comments I've ever read/heard was between women.

Cannot handle the environment go and play with yourselves you overgrown children.

Notice the outrage in the top comments in the original post on the other subreddit. Apparently the scientific community deciding to specifically look for instances of sexual harassment in gaming shows "a lack of dedication to scientific professionalism." You know, that thing that's true about most feminist research papers and studies done. It's almost like they can't handle hearing that women can be worse that men when it comes to sexual harassment...

Stopped reading when they started sympathizing with Anita Sarkeesian. Even the most militant feminist should be able to recognize that she is a con artist.

Just a couple of days ago she tried to shake down CD Projekt Red into paying her "consulting fee," or she would post bad things about their game's representation of women. It is astounding to me that people haven't caught on yet.

It's always been pretty clear to me that many, if not most, female gamers are far more sexist than your average male gamers. You see it on reddit all the time, grown women trying to victimize themselves because they received male attention; all the while glorifying attention from other women themselves(especially blatant when you look at "female only" subs like girl gamers which is deliberately discriminative) or demonstrating the exact same time of attention seeking behaviour(basically jumping on this "look at me, woe is me, i'm an oppressed female gamer" narrative for attention).

They will cry that lonely, depraved and awkward teenage boys will sexualize or romanticize them online, even when they are literally adult women in a position of power and privilege over them(both offline and online). There is a major empathy gap there not just in where at attention might be coming from but a major negative bias and hostile predisposition towards male attention in general(a dehumanizing and irrational disdain that I could only describe as toxic femininity). If men complained about female attention the way women do about male attention, it would be labelled as misogynous gate-keeping.

So many times, I see female gamers make everything about gender, when gender isn't necessarily a relevant factor, but neglect gender as a factor when it is actually relevant. Male to female sexual attention from a heterosexual man relates to gender, but female gamers will try to present this as misogyny because apparently all boys should act like eunuchs and treat girls no differently than boys(despite biology, sexual market value and romantic gender role expectations all being relevant factors). When a guy insults a girl online, even with it's totally warranted and in the most gender neutral manner, female gamers will make this a gender issue, and try to label the situation as misogyny(this is especially true if gendered terms like "bitch" are used, despite the context in which they are used had nothing to do with gender).

And that's not even going into the number of women who are absolutely toxic, hostile and condescending online, often explicitly so towards men/boys, just because they can(and, because they are women, there is very little to no accountability for their actions because most people wouldn't tell them they are wrong or would just automatically side with them because they are women). Or the fact that men seem far more open/comfortable with the idea of playing female protagonists than women seem to be with male protagonists.

The bolded part doesn't follow. What could follow is that "when men are harassed, they don't perceive it as harassment, as they were told only women could suffer from it". The last part is all in their head. It could be true, but anything could be true, too.

This makes a lot of assumptions

The experiment conditions doesn’t seem viable, especially when they give such vague parameters

They obviously already have their conclusion, they’re just cutting and pasting lines to fit their narrative

I would prefer to read the actual experiment, but I honestly can’t take an experiment seriously if the sample size is so small and within such a small time frame

Yeah in my 20 years of gaming, I have heard/seen exactly 0, yup 0 cases of sexism towards men. Not a single time.

If there's an identifiable woman in a game, I would say 75% chance she's harassed. Probably about 45% chance she'll be harassed in a sexual way, 45% trashing her simply for being a "girl gamer", and maybe 10% could be "harmless fun" with the right people and circumstances.

While I'm not one to usually rely on anecdotal evidence over a scientific study, I can't imagine anyone who's ever played an online video game in their life would agree with the statement "female gamers are the real sexists."
