I earn decent money. It's taken me a while to get here. My ex wife wasn't a high earner.

One of the things I noted in COVID, was the difference in our ability. The standards or comparisons in our meetings was clear. She sat there, passive, whilst I led meetings and was more dynamic.

We were married for 7 years. We have a daughter.

She spent my savings on the Kitchen. Served me divorce papers the day the last invoice was paid. The deposit for the hose was given to me my parents. I was able to keep the house as I showed I could afford it.

But she got:

  • My Army Pension (4 years worth of contributions, but I kept my Government Pension and a year of Army Pension that I was called out to Iraq for).
  • 60% of the Equity, House has appreciated much more in the last 12 months.
  • I also had to pay off her debts and credit card bills.

All of this was due to her being a low earner, so we had to combine assets and losses and then split it.

I have just been offered a notable promotion with fantastic pension benefits, benefits that equal my army pension, year for year.

But, as a 44M, why the hell would I ever want to put myself in this sort of position again?

I believed in marriage and I got burned. But if I marry or move in with a similiar low payed person, why would I set myself and my daughter up to lose half my savings and assets again in 10 years time?

PS - now my wife is in a flat in literally the worst area of the City and I'm about to move into the suburbs and buy myself a new Ford Mustang.
