Didn't really affect me, but my brother in law had to fight 3 year to get custody of his kids from a suicidal drug addicted mother. (1) That's not a feminist issue. That's the patriarchy enforcing the idea that women are automatically better caretakers, regardless of evidence

I love this exchange. Men getting a bad deal? Well, you created the problem in the 1st place, so go fuck yourself.
Feminism is for men tooooooo
[–]danpilon 17 points18 points19 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Except it was feminists that introduced the tender years doctrine which is why, even to this day, family courts automatically give custody to the mother, except in extreme cases. Before that the custody of children was the man's responsibility, since it was his responsibility to provide for them. Don't let them blame the patriarchy for their own actions.

I don't think you actually understand that comment or the idea of the "patriarchy".
"Patriarchy" doesn't mean "men". They are not synonymous terms. Patriarchy means large scale ideology that men should be leaders, and women should be followers, and the roles and gender norms that come with that. That person never once said "men created the problem", they said "the commonplace ideology of patriarchy created the problem", which is true.
Now saying that it isn't a feminist issue isn't true. It is a gender issue, or at least a human rights issue.
Sorry to break up your circlejerk, but I'm tired of this sub spreading misinformation for the sake of venting.

Interesting, so the implication is to fix it your own damn self is actually encouraging the patriarchy.
I would agree with you. The Patriarchy is hard to understand. I mean we have women leaders in government and business. I've had female bosses and still do. I mean 3rd world nations and church are the only places where the idea of female leaders is questioned.
[–]Teraperf -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I'm not sure of the context of "fix it your damn self" would be, so I don't know. In regards to fixing the patriarchy?
[–]BigOldNerd 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
not sure of the context
From original comment:
That's not a feminist issue.
Men are having a problem due to patriarchy. Well, feminism can't help you. So go fix it your own damn self.
I understand that I had to read in to comments so I'll remove the quotes from what I previously wrote.

I haven't actually encountered many feminists off the internet that would ever say that about a gender issue.
In fact, I encourage you to check out this list of all the men's issues that feminists have taken initiative on. Men's issues are gender issues after all.
[–]BigOldNerd 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
EDIT: That list is huge and it's good to be reminded of all that good work.
I do know some feminists and I would agree that non-tumblr feminists are more sane. The work that RL feminists are doing to normalize men showing emotion or having jobs that are non-manly is praiseworthy.
What I haven't seen is feminists standing up when a situation is a man going up against a woman. College, child custody, etc. Men not graduating from college (60f/40m grad rate) is hailed as a win for women. They can't be bothered with the men failing to man up and graduate. Child custody... Feminists are okay with letting men stay home to take care of the kids, but I've never heard of a feminist org standing behind a man to get custody, any level of custody.
They will support men's rights as long as it doesn't disadvantage or inconvenience women in the process. I think that's what separates feminism from egalitarianism or men's rights. It's also why the claim that feminism is for men is extremely false. It's for men to participate in, but not to benefit from.

So how or why did the "patriarchy" create the situation where women are the leaders (better caretakers) in the family and men the followers with their cheque book, i.e. taking a secondary role in the upbringing of the children?

And again, more shitposts that make the MRM look exactly like our critics want us to.
We're not all about Tradionalism. I don't give a rats ass about the nuclear family. I don't care if every child is raised in a single parent home. I just want Dads to get the same shot as custody as moms, for husbands to get the same treatment as wives. "Keeping the family together" paints us fundamentalist traditionalists - might as well paint the 'mom' in this picture with an apron and a vacuum cleaner.
In addition, the cheap shot of drawing the "real feminist" as fat is disgusting. All MRA's are not neckbeard fatties living in Mom's basement, and so too not all Feminists are Big Red, as much as we like to paint that picture.
The only way we will ever put in check the harm feminism does to men and boys is by winning over enough public sentiment. This drawing, and the upvotes it gets, when shown to "the public", will bury us, not bouy us.

Thank you. I'm a feminist AND a men's rights activist (what do you know! you can be both!) and I'm very anti-traditional. You're absolutely right that all this comic does is provides a convenient strawman for people to fight against, and who wouldn't fight against it? But if we're fighting against MRA's imaginary expectation of traditional values we aren't exactly fighting for men's issues, are we?
[–]questionnmark -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Traditionalism died because the society it was stable in died a long time ago. In addition to this there is also the point whereby the 'nuclear family; the job away from home; needing a job to live; gender division of family roles etc are less than 100 years old. They are neither new nor old.

yes,i completely agree with what you said, but humans behave irrationally.
is it wrong to make fun of them sometimes ?
[–]OtanH 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I think taking one side of an argument and completely denying it's validity at all is irresponsible and definitely makes the MRM look bad.
We need to acknowledge that some of the actual issues that feminism talks about have some grounding in reality and not just the extremist SJW tumblrinas talking about #killallmen. We don't want to stoop to their level because then we become no better than them.
We are for EQUALITY not anti-feminsim and I think this is forgotten sometimes as we try to over compensate due to extreme feminism becoming a mainstream media topic.

Thanks mate, you really changed my mentality towards this issue(and a lot other issues).
Hope i will become more responsible and stop hating others

MGTOW is that as well.

If I posted this on my facebook, and I really want to, it would cause a shitstorm of epic proportions. I might do it, as an academic exercise, to see who wigs out the most.
I see my friends post feminist propaganda every time I go on facebook. Even the people that have specifically argued that conventional families are oppressive and a tool of the patriarchy to force women into servitude as baby factories, would be offended by this picture. Not because it's unfair or inaccurate, but because they're incapable of accepting criticism for their insane views. I'd probably get unfriended by a dozen people.

I notice a lot of bashing of anti feminists in the imgur comments.
[–][deleted] 11 points12 points13 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Their consistent argument is that we are using straw tumblr feminists. Which is itself a straw-man argument in essence since we are most concerned with the feminists that are with power and influential voices.
i haven't used imgur much . that was my second post there.but somehow this image went viral,so viral that a feminist forum(a small one tho) told its users to downvote the image and upvote top comment
i thought , well they are only making it more viral
[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Still got upvotes though.
[–]xx2Hardxx 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's no longer accessible on Imgur... that's odd to me. Does anyone have a mirror?
[–]butt_sex_man -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
God damned whiny shitposts. Yes feminism is a joke no whining doesn't accomplish anything. Go make your life awesome and stop bitching(like a feminist) about others.
This sub had some alright content for awhile and now it's taken over by mancows who want to pity themselves and make themselves professional victims just like what happened to feminist subs.
[–]kobedunkingonhoward 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
sorry for shitposts .
I think you could have said in a better way.
[–]butt_sex_man -3 points-2 points-1 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sorry m8 not trying to attack you personally. Keep seeing an inundation of people talking about why feminists are crap and poor us men. We can and should be better than that.
