I too Am Catholic. I feel you brother. I find it funny that some of us can be so prideful and forget that we’re all sinners acting like they don’t stink as well. And I’m sorry you were in prison. I pray whatever it was is behind you now.

But take it for what it is, it’s Reddit. Reddit seems to bring out the worst in all of use.

I feel sorry for what you went through. I honestly think you didn't deserve it. This is a sad part of life for a man often that those you look after tend to backstab you when your utility expires. I have undergone a similar event in my life.

Hope you're doing well. If you need to exchange a few words I am here for you. Even if you want to argue about religion or god :)

I’m not a huge fan of Catholicism, but I will agree it’s often misrepresented and misunderstood.

For example, a friend of mine who teaches science including evolution at a catholic school, the Catholic Church being fine with it, saying the Bible isn’t meant to be interpreted as a scientific book, something many parents don’t understand.

I do think many people hide behind religion as an excuse to not offer real help. I’ve had a couple occasions where I’ve asked religious friends for help, they choosing not to with the excuse they will help me by praying. I didn’t need a prayer, I needed their actual help. It’s simply an excuse to justify not helping a friend in need.

Related to your situation, one can support someone who’s made a mistake without condoning their immoral or illegal action.

I'm personally very anti-Christian but even I recognise that charging the Catholics with "misogyny" is highly suspicious. I mean, Catholicism has the MOST "divine feminine" within it out of all branches of Christianity (Mary's prominent status). Sure, Mary isn't Ms. Promiscuity, but Jesus wasn't a pussy-crushing Chad either!

And my condolences for your suffering under silly laws. The world needs to understand that mid-to-late-teen love will always be a thing and accommodate it accordingly.

My gf was 17 when I was 19? Her dad was an Ontario superior court judge and her mom was a university prof. We asked them before we started having sex and they bought us birth control.

Born catholic... walked away from it years ago.

Most of the time, the only time when females try to use religion or a religious text is when it benefits them. They usually use it as a way to get men to either think a certain way or to get men to do something for them. They use it in a manipulative way. They always neglect the other parts ( the parts that explain how a woman should dress and behave/conduct herself.)

It's another example of how they want a traditional male without being traditional themselves. Then whine about "equality" and being "oppressed" because they don't get their way......kind of like children who say their parents hate them, or claim their parents are mean, just because the parents won't give them what they want.

Basically, I consider myself more of a modern day Manichaean. But hey, if catholicism works for you then kudos. I frankly don’t buy into an I idolized conception of God, whether that be Elohim or Ahura Mazda, much like I don’t buy in any depiction of the Jesus or the Buddha.
