There's a lot of pressure on men to "take precautions" around women and girls. I'm only 20 and not doing so has very nearly landed me in hot water. A female coworker of mine was belittling me at work and I told her to leave me alone. I made the mistake of doing so behind closed doors, and she threatened to report me to human resources. We don't want to worry, but we have to if we want to stay safe. Your frustration is warranted, and trust me when I say we guys are frustrated too.

You can also betcha that your next flat tire on the side of the road will leave you stranded, because no man will want to help you, because of possible fake accusations. That goes for women being actively raped on buses in NYC too. People literally stood by and watched a woman get raped on a bus!

Maybe watch the news to see what happens to Good Samaritans. And connect some dots.

Do I still stop and help people? Yes, I do. But I'm not in NYC.

As a male (former) teacher I have faced numerous accusations of all kinds of BS. It is a big part of why I left education.

The school was minimally supportive when these instances occurred.

Nobody was going to protect me so I had to protect myself. This was also drilled into my head in post-secondary and by other teachers and mentors. This meant never being alone in a classroom with students, especially female students. The accusations I encountered were all from female students. There was never any accountability for those students, despite the lack of veracity in their claims, the potential for harm that would cause in my life, and so on. The responsibility was placed entirely on my shoulders. It was my fault I had these accusations made, it was on me to handle them, the students, their parents, etc etc.

This doesn't make the job feel very safe. Imagine coming in to work everyday and having this automatic association that you can't be trusted around children because of your gender and that nobody cared. That was very much my experience as a male teacher. I never closed the door when alone with the class or individual students, unless there was another adult in the room. And even then, I still did not feel safe.

I don't feel that is discrimination of female students. I see that more as discrimination of male teachers that has consequences on female students.

I think the real issue is the shared narrative around men in society. I feel this is especially true for men who take on employment roles that are more female-dominated, like teaching, childcare, and such.

Have you mentioned this observation to your teachers or administrative team? I wonder what kind of answer you would get.

You shouldn’t take school policy to protect you and him so personally. Are you getting a worse education because the door is open? Discrimination requires an unequal treatment. Have you caught him alone in a room with a boy with the door closed? Do you feel there is unfair treatment between being taught with the door open or closed? Do you want to be in the room alone with him and the door closed, and have you expressed this to him? Have you considered that you make him uncomfortable, and he has the right to have the door open regardless of how you feel about it?

I’m just not sure that sucks for you as much as it sucks for him.

A lot of men replying here were "blaming me" in away, saying it's women's fault cause of feminism and this and that. As if just for being a girl I am at fault for what other women have done. I am different. I have no problem if men DM me here just to talk, I don't get offended like other girls do
