I like how men are basically systematically held back, and this article essentially just goes.

Thanks for cutting the penis off my suffering and telling me I need to live up to a hetro-normative lifestyle with a high-level of socio-economical success or I'm making women suffer.

Never mind that I'm surviving day to day just to have something to eat. Because in this society a man I'm not worth anything unless I sacrifice enough of myself to gain your approval.

Hypergamy takes different forms in different cultures, but the basic drive is a product of evolution. It's not hard to see why it would be adaptive: Since females bear a much greater burden for sexual reproduction, it is in their "interest"--defined in evolutionary terms as the interest of propagating their genes--to mate with the strongest males, giving their offspring the best chance of survival.

The male sex drive is a product of evolution, too. It explains why, according to Lake, Chinese men "shy away" from the shengnu "in favor of younger, more 'manageable' beauties." Men are attracted to younger women because they are more fertile, and therefore (at least in the ancestral environment) more likely to carry on their genes.
